I have had crohns for 20 ++ yrs and I have never had this happen before. I have went from running to the br several times a day to not going at all, when i finally go it is very narrow (smaller than a pencil ) Has anyone ever experienced this ??? my GI has orderd miralax daily. I currently am on no meds for my crohns (outnof options ) the only new thing is i have quit smoking.

I tend to have narrow bms and it seems to be because of myralax..

When I quit smoking for 3 yrs it was 3 yrs from hell, mind you I have crohns-colitis (CD affecting the colon) so I'm guessing maybe because the carbon monoxide in the nicotine has anti-inflammatory responses to the colon, this may be why.
Sounds to me like you have some proctitis going on (inflammation of the rectom) cortifoam will help that...although going from having D to C can be the nature of the beast with crohns, but it could also mean a partial blockage, best thing to do is see your doc.

I Have an upcomming apt. in march at mayo clinic in minnesota and Also have been working with my GI Dr @ home. Theybare talking of redoing the colonoscopy when i was there in october they couldnt perform the colonoscopy they said I wasnt cleaned out. I had been fasting 2 days prior and had a gal of golightly along with 4 docolax tabs i was going clear but they said that there was solid stool. I tthink tha.t was a red flag but who knows. they said they really need to get a good test this time so I told them i was going on clear liquids for a week prior.

this sounds similar to what I experienced leading up to landing my self in the ER a couple weeks ago with a partial obstruction due to an inflamed illeum. I would get it checked out. If your BM are pencil thin, I think it could be because your Crohn's has acted up and inflammed your bowels, allowing only the pencil thin bm to pass through.
As a result I am on prednisone now (doctor visit tommorow to discuss the taper plan from 40 mg/day down)

Well there could be a blockage problem or something along those lines so pay very close attention because if you start to feel really uncomfortable and havn't pooped out anything you should go to the ER.

also, have ur doc look for a stricture, its like scar tissue that causes ur bms to get skinny, they can be stretched or cut out, or in my case not dealt with at all, as i had other issues to deal with. But the skinny bms definitely remind me of strictures, they can tell if u have one with an oscopy
