   Hi....okay I was wondering if any one has an answer for me, my dad is in the hospital he has had a stoke but now he also has a bowel infection so they put him in a seperate room. Everyone has to wash their hands when they come in and use a gel and do the same when they leave. I know this is catching so we have to be careful. Should I wait a few days before I go see him, or is it okay for me to go now. anyone have an opinion. sad thanks

If you are on immune surpressants then you need to be extremley careful.

I agree with ALI9....if you are on imuran, 6mp, humira, or remicade, be VERY careful. My Gma has been on an isolation floor because of an infection, and I have not gone up to see her because I am on remicade. Anybody who goes in her room has to gown up.....it's not worth the risk to me. I have talked to her on the phone instead.

I would talk to the nurses before you go in and tell them that you're on immuno-suppressants if you are. My mom had one of the superbugs that she picked up from the hospital and we had to gown and glove to visit. I spoke to the nurses and her doctor and they advised me that so long as I strictly followed the isolation protocal I should be OK. I never picked up the bug in all my trips to and from visiting her even though we held hands (unfortunately through gloves) and shared embraces.
I would ask if it would help for you to use latex gloves while visiting to help that much more with germ protection? I'm sure your dad wouldn't mind you mimicking a doctor if he gets to see you!

does he have c-diff? I had this last year and TRUST me, you don't want it. just be careful

Yes,he does have c-diff and I was worried about gettting sick because I also take care of my mom who is bedridden and totally dependent on me. I'm on entocort, pentasa and iron supplements nothing else....so maybe it would be fine as long as I'm careful.... thank you Bev for your prayers. thanks everyone for answering....

A door knob, button on a vending machine, handle on a toilet, etc., can all carry bad bacteria. Hospitals are breeding grounds for C diff and mersa infections. If you go with somebody, let them open all the doors, etc. If you go alone, you could wear plastic gloves and then take them off the minute you get back outside.
