Just curious how many folks with Crohn's have a direct link to the Vietnam war?
My father served two tours and was exposed to Agent Orange.
I just wondered how many Vietnam Veterans and/or children/grandchildren of Vietnam Veterans have been diagnosed with Crohn's....

My father was a vietnam vetran, Diagnosed with Chrones at age 18, Now im 43 just been Diagnosed with Chrones !!!

I just did a Google search using this criterion:

agent orange crohn's site:healingwell.com

and got a fair few results, so you might like to try that too.

I was literally covered with agent orange on many occasions . You need to know also that many people here at home were exposed every day too . Agent Orange was used by city and parish workers to control vegetation growth on highway shoulders , ditch banks and vacant lots all over this country too . You could have been exposed many times and never known it .

It would probably be of interest to find out how many Vietnamese suffer from Crohn's disease. I haven't seen any statistics on that, and not sure where to look. Lots of Vietnamese living in the USA today, almost all refugees from the war (and their descendants). Most South Vietnamese had exposure to Agent Orange (it wasn't used in the North, rather ironic). Primarily those who lived in the countryside were heavily dosed.

Google didn't produce any interesting results, until I used the Vietnamese words for Crohn's disease: Bệnh Crohn

That gave me 53,900 hits, but results are all in Vietnamese. However, you can use Google Translate to make sense out of it. This works best if you use Chrome as your browser, but not absolutely necessary.

Diagnosed at age 15 with Ulcerative Colitis, my dad was a Vietnam vet and exposed to agent orange. My dad has ankylosis spondylitis. My GI doc says there is a direct link between that and me having colitis. My cousin has crohns.

I was in Viet Nam but did not get diagnoised until 41 years later, too bad Crohn's is not on the VA's list of Agent Orange diseases.

My husband was a US Marine in Vietnam. Our youngest, a son, was diagnosed with Chron's disease at age 23. At that time neither my husband nor I knew of any extended family members with anything like Chron's. Years later, our granddaughter, the child of another son, was diagnosed with Chron's. These are the only two in our extended families with this disease. Are there any studies regarding grandchildren of people expised to Agent Orange?

My Father served 3 tours in Vietnam. He was exposed to Agent Orange many, many times at close range. Within the last 20 years or so, he started having skin issues that are associated with his exposure to AO. I began having GI symptoms at the age of 12. At the age of 16, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. At the age of 21 my symptoms were so debilitating I had to have surgery. At that time, I had a bowel resection with ileostomy. Also, my MDs realized they had misdiagnosed me with UC and changed the diagnosis to Crohn’s. I am now 45 years old. Just like so many other people have stated, I am also the only member of my family to have Crohn’s. I am very curious to know how many children of Vietnam Vets have been diagnosed with Crohn’s and other autoimmune disorders in general.
Until today, I had no idea AO exposure and CD might be related. Wow.
