I am having diarrhea still and burning on the rt side. I called my GI who is an IBD specialist in the city and he is trying to get me in for a CATscan enterography?  What is the difference between that and a CAT scan.  Also can you see an infection on the CAT scan.  He started me on xifaxan until be get the results and again he said no to prednisone that they don't use it anymore because at the end of a year more than 75% of the people can't get off of it.  I am functioning but not eating for fear of more diarrhea.  What a mess.  Is it time to get a new GI doc??  My gut is telling me so.  How would I know if I have an infection and can you have a flare even on entocort??

Ct Enterography is a newer form of the test that shows more detail according to my GI. I had one in April which showed a stricture along with a camera pill stuck in there. YIKES! You have to drink a different solution than the normal barium. I did three 20 or 24 oz containers. You have 10 mins to drink each one and they stood and watched me. I couldn't get it all down because of stomach pain along with being weak and feeling crappy from not eating for like 16 hours before the test. The went ahead and did the test anyways since I got more than 1/2 down, but were hesitant. I basically told them to do it now or do it never. You also have an IV which is normal. The test is much more expensive than a regular CT. Mine was $4500 and had to be pre-approved with insurance cause it's fairly new and not necessarily Required. Hope all goes well for you - GOOD LUCK!

CT enterography is a CT scan where beforehand you drinking a large volume of contrast so your intestines can be visualized better. I had one. For me it was 3 big cups of liquid but it's not very viscous so it's not as bad as the barium for a SBFT. I had to drink one cup each 15 minutes, I had no problem with it. I also had IV contrast too. I was told you need to do the colonoscopy prep beforehand. In my case I did the same day as the colonoscopy, about an hour after, since I didn't want to prep twice. Sorry I can't answer your other questions.

I had two on an emergency basis and therefore could not do prep. Both showed acute inflammation in the area of concern. The contrast is better flavored and easier to get down. Both time these "served" it over ice.
