Hi all.  I was diagnosed in November '05 with Crohn's when I went to the ER with abdominal pain & wound up having a bowel resection.  Since then I haven'y had any severe problems, but every 6 months or so I get pains for a few days which usually turn out to be nothing.

I just spend 4 days in the hospital with severe pain.  No doctor could tell me where the pain is coming from.  No obstruction, etc.  The catscan showed an enlarged spleen and lymph nodes.

Since the resection, I have been taking 6mp, Entocort, Pentasa, Florastor, & Fish oil.  I am afraid that the 6mp may be causing this, but the doctors say "I don't think so" or "most likely, not."  Those answers don't sit well with me.  I have been afraid of the 6mp ever since I started taking it.

My catscan before the resection in '05 showed a normal spleen.  The new catscan & the one in '06 show it enlarged and with lymph nodes.

Has anyone had problems like this?  Please help.  Thank you.

Do you have an internist to see? Enlarged spleen could be a sign of many things. I would make an appointment as soon as possible.

My daughter had an enlarged spleen and lymph nodes only when she had mononucleosis.

I agree with Chris, you need to see an internist to go over these results. Enlarged spleen and lymph nodes should get checked out because there are many possibilities for what is causing them. Has anyone palpated your spleen with his/her own two hands and said it was enlarged, or was it only picked up by the CT?

The spleen is a small organ about the size of your fist. It's located just below your rib cage on your left side. The spleen helps your body fight infection and filter unwanted material, such as old or damaged blood cells. The spleen also produces red blood cells and certain types of white blood cells.

Typically, an enlarged spleen (splenomegaly) is a sign of an underlying problem. Many conditions can cause an enlarged spleen. Treatment of an enlarged spleen is usually aimed at the underlying problem. I agree with the others, you would benefit from making an appointment with an Internal Medicine Physician.

I have an appointment with the homotologist/oncologist that I saw in the hopital.  (The GI doc called him in)  He didn't see too concerned.  I am gonna follow up.  I wanted to see if anyone on 6mp had a simular recaction.  My fear is that medication.
