Remicade Dilemma

I saw my GI 2 weeks ago and recommended that I go off of my Remicade.  I have been taking Remicade in conjunction with 6MP for 7 years now and have stayed in complete remission while on both drugs.  The 2 times I have tried to go off my medication (just 6MP) I developed multiple abscesses and fistulas.  My doctor said he wants me to go off the Remicade b/c there is no way to know what the long term effects will be.  He is confident that I should/can stay on the 6MP long-term b/c it is such a low dose. 

Any advice?  Anyone tried to go off Remicade?

I had to stop Remicade after 2.5 years because I began reacting to it. I was on Imurran the entire time I took Remicade. The Remicade put my guts into remission. I stopped Remicade in July of last year. I am still on Imuran. My guts remain in remission [1 BM every or every other day]. BUT be aware that I have/had what would be described as "mild" CD involvement in the intestines. No fistulae or abscesses. My CD effected many other body systems and that was why I started Remicade.

I stopped it, because it stopped working for me, and it sent me into a flare that cost me a couple of weeks in the hospital. It was keeping me symptom free, I guess, and not really in remission (though I felt great!) so once it was gone, I was in trouble.

I'm now on Humira.

Hi I have been on Remicade and Imuran for almost 5 years and I am in remission. If you stop the Remicade you probably would be able to go back you will build anti-bodys to the Remicade.
