Pentasa and breastfeeding???

Hello! Are there any mother's out there who have breastfed while taking pentasa? If so, please provide me with your insight (i.e. did the baby have any side effects, reactions).

This is something I've been meaning to find out as well. I know there is a link for a specific doctor who specializes in this that has been posted before, but I can't recall his name. Hopefully someone will come along soon and let us know.

I actually would like the answer to this as well.

The doctor you are referring to is probably Dr. Hale.

Yup, it was Hale. Somebody posted a link a while back, but I couldn't find Pentasa on his sight when I searched it.

my cousin breastfed while on pentasa, i'm not sure her dosage. but she nursed for 6 mos. the child is 4 years old now, i don't believe there were any reactions.
i would definatley speak to your doctor tho.
good luck! breastfeeding is such a great experience!! i'm nursing my 2nd child now- he's 8 mos old now.

thank you to all of you! I did speak to my doctor and since the drug is L3 there have not been many studies. Of the studies, only one showed excessive diarrhea (and as we all know, dehydration resulted).

I take a really low dose. I am in my 2nd year of remission (thank God). I am going to breastfeed. Our pediatrician and I are going to keep a close watch on his bowel movement, GI tract and development. At this point, I believe the pro's outweigh the possible cons.

At a conference this weekend, I was told Pentasa is fine for breast feeding. I think I'm going to do it too, or go off the med completely. I've never felt like it did much for me anyway (other than drain my wallet).
