GERD or acid reflux common with Crohn's??

Hi,

I have Crohn's and a big problem with GERD (acid reflux), and am wondering if GERD is a frequent complaint by those with CD.  I also notice that when my CD is acting up, my GERD gets worse.  Do any of you also experience this?

I'd say it's common. I often suffer from anxiety attacks. Sometimes the acid reflux causes anxiety and so on. Like the chichen and the egg thing.

First thing I do when I think I am having an attack I take previcid [sp]

I was diagnosed with 2 stomach ulcers the summer before I was diagnosed with crohns.  I took nexium for that.  So, apparently high stomach acid is common for me! :-)  I am currently back on the nexium to help counteract the terrible stomach ache from prednisone.  But I took my last dose on Friday...so far so good...lets hope that continues...

I would say it's common, too, since Crohn's affects the entire GI tract from the throat, down. I was first diagnosed with GERD and IBS before I was diagnosed wth Crohn's. I had a stomach ulcer that was created from HPylori bacteria. I took Aciphex for the ulcer as well as Nexium to keep the acid reflux down.

Yes, GERD is quite common in people with CD. My upper endoscopy showed severe inflammation in my stomach when my CD was active. My GI told me it is very common in people with small bowel Crohn's. Mine is well controlled with Prevacid.

I have acid reflux that is no longer controlled w/ nexium. I have been on acid blockers since 13. Was diagnosed w/ crohns at 23. Currently I think I have an esphogeal ulcer and will be seeing my doc Wed.

I also have Gerd as well, and like the other posts I find that it acts up more when my crohn's is acting up as well.
