MRI nasogastric tube

OMG I've never heard of this. I've had a couple of MRI's with barium and never had an NG tube. I think if it was me, I would have to put up a HUGE fight before I let them do that, and they would need to give me some serious drugs first. That is one of the reasons I stay home when I get blockages. I am petrified of the NG tube. I will be hoping and praying that you don't have to have it done that way, it just sounds way too horrible.

I had the MRI enterography before and i had read about a NG tube for the barium and it freaked me out. I asked about it when I called and I did drink the 2 things of barium (you have 15 mins to drink 1 bottle then the next 15 for the other so yes 2 bottles plus 1 cup of the stuff in a total of 30 mins. After that I had to have 1 cup of water. They ran the test then attempted to place an IV for that dye unfortunately my veins stink and they were unable to do that. all in all it was very uninvasive

I've had my share of misery also with NG tubes. I'm very thin, small boned and weigh 90 lbs and in many of the hospitals I've been in they have one size fits all tubes. Out of frustration I ordered a package of NG tubes 10 years ago in a smaller size- really a children's size. They are called Salem Sump Tubes and the manufacturer is Argyle. I bought a size called 12 Fr. (4.0mm) It's still not a day in the park, but much more comfortable.

I just got back from my MRI, I had scar tissue in my ileum that was causing a small obstruction, stuff could still get through, but they wanted a better pitcure hence the MRI. The reason I was told that I needed the NG tube was because it had to be inserted past the stomach and into the small bowel. or whatever intestine is closest to the stomach. IT WAS HORRIBLE. They sprayed some numbing stuff up my nose and then inserted the tube, I then had to a lay on my side so they could do live x rays to see where the tube was and to make sure it was going in ok. After all this was done I was supposed to go straight to MRI but the radiologist was late so i had to sit in this little room with this huge tube up my nose for 30 min, I had to keep my head down or it was painful.

So they had me in the MRI tube face down and that was fine but when they had to pump the MRI contrast through the tube it was terrible. it was fine at first but Im small, like 100 pounds small so my stomach filled up quick and the gallon and a half of fluid being pumped in was miserable, I was crying and having a panic attack but they wouldn't give me anything for it because they said drugs are bad. The whole thing took about 45, without the tube it would have been fine but the NG tube was terrible, taking it out was fine but, having that thing in for 3 hours was the worst thing ever, oh and it gives you a bloody nose, and diarhea like no ones business. Like i need more of that thanks

of all the things I have had done in the past two years, I would say the worst was my SBFT with a tube. sorry you had to do it.

So i saw the Dr. last night and he said that the MRI was normal. No scar tissue no inflammation no reflare. He had to recheck with the radiologist to make sure they were my films. NO obstruction just poo

I'm at Mayo Clinic right now. Just had a CT Enterography Monday. Mayo has been doing some clinical trials or research w/MRI Enterography and Dr Tremaine says that so far it is NOT proving to be as good at the CT Enterography EXCEPT when it is the very bottom of the pelvic area, such as the rectum, etc.

Bless their heart, didn't need to do the NG tub bit for the CTE. Just drink the 3 bottles of light barium, gladolin, whatever it is.

Could NOT believe the CLARITY of the scan images as compared to the local CTE I had just a few months ago!!!! Absolutely no comparison! And our local imaging has all brand new equipment "I" thought was really up to date. Can't begin to compare w/Mayo's. But then can anything local compare to Mayo in any area??

There's been a couple of surprises so far. We except to start for home Friday about noon. We'll be going thru the UP and hitting a good share if not all of the casinos between Mayo and home. Joy, joy. Ah well, I bought some good books to read and still have a couple left unread yet.

i have had 2 ng tubes one I woke up with after my ostomy sx. the last NG tube I had.was.in 1-08 after Sx. I had 2 BMs so they started me back on.food...I ended up with ileus again (colon didnt wake up). that 1 went in when I was awake and .to top it off I contracted a cold even tho when mymom got symptoms she didnt visit those days. I had mine in for 5 days and had a sinus inf in that 1 side for a month...lots of saline spray and neosporin up the nostril to help with how bloody and dry etc it got. Yup I even puked with it in
