I have never had a problem with fruit in the past. Even at the worst of times fruit didn't bother me; in fact it got me through the liquid diet days ( weeks? months? )
But lately I am having endless trouble with fruit. A burning sensation in the gut, what i think is some mild bloating and of course the dreaded D. And this happens with all kinds of fruit; grapes, oranges, apples, you name it. Now, ordinarily this wouldn't bother me; if a food is troublesome just stop eating it. But fruit is not something I want to do away with, health wise and taste wise.....I love the stuff!
Does anyone have an alternative to "mainstream" fruits? Something exotic I havn't tried maybe? Does fruit juice cover the bases healthwise?

I'm not sure about
what to suggest for alternative fruits, but for my dad I know the problem is the acidity of fruits, they have acid which is what causes alot of the problems...so for me, I don't have fruit problems, but like my dad I choose the low acid fruit drinks and all to avoid problems, which could be one sort of idea for you to try....low acid orange and apple juices are easily available.

Mona Vie has the juices of 19 fruits, including the acai berry, which is a super antioxidant. The downside is you can't buy it in stores, but have to either buy it from someone who's a distributor, or become a distributor yourself. I stopped eating most fruits and vegetables, but felt like I was getting what I needed from the Mona Vie.

The best nutrition does come from whole fruits. I'm with Lady G. Probably the acid or maybe even the sugar. For some reason, cantalopes, watermelon, grapefruit and oranges do me in. I can tolerate madarin oranges (lower acid/less pulp). Juicy Juice & V8 have come out with some pretty good fruit mixes too. If you have the time and the bucks, invest in a good quality juicier. These come in pretty handy when you have to pulverize your food too! Sometimes just reducing the serving size and making sure you're not laying around in the recliner or going to bed just after eating helps too. Both of these actions cause indigestion anyway. You may also want to talk with your Dr. about
Nexium, Prilocet and the like. The Nexium has saved me the burn more than once!

I can't eat ant fruits at all. Even when in remission.

try canned fruits for awhile. Maybe when you are doing better you can go back to the fresh.

Melons are delicious and nutricious for me - isn't that a TV commercial? Pineapple is fine for whatever reason - I haven't been able to eat/ drink citrus in years. Absolutely cannot eat apples. They feel like they don't go past my stomach/esophagus. Canned fruit cocktail has been one of my staples for years except lately it goes right through. Hope this helps - feel better!
