Hello,

I am new to the Crohn's disease  board.  I am usually on the Chronic Pain board, but I am having a flare-up, so I thought I would take a look.  I went to the GI today and have to have an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy next week.  The doctor gave me a new prep(new to me anyway) and the nurse said it really wasn't that bad.  It is called HalfLytely, similair to the Co-Lytely I think.  The nurse said I could mix it with crystal light to make it taste better, and that make it not so bad, but I would like to hear from some of you who have used it.

I had the Co-Lytely a few years ago and it make me vomit violently, let alone the taste mad . I asked the doctor to give me a prescription of Zofran( anti-neasous)sp? and he did, so hopefully I won't throw up so bad this time.

Has anyone had this prep?

Yuck, awful stuff. They gave that to me in the hospital and I threw it all up. Thankfully I wasn't eating for several days, and was having several loose bloody movements a day. So they didn't have much to clean out. It's still what my doctor prefers as a prep, and I'm not sure how I'll ever do it again.

Hi Wicks, I recently did the Half-Lyttly. Mine came with pills that were taken 3 hours before the liquid. There were flavor packs included with mine (not sure if that is always the case). It was $66 !!!! I had to pay $30 of that, so check with your insurance right away if that's an issue. I took the four pills (sometimes comes with 2) and I was sick to my stomach BEFORE I ever tried drinking the liquid. I've done preps before (twice) and didn't have this much trouble. I had to walk back and forth thru the house to get this stuff to go down . . . I did not throw up but I sure thought I would. It wasn't the taste, it just would not settle. I'll be asking for a different prep next time. The phospho soda (I think thats what it was called) was available OTC and I had no trouble with it. Now having said all that . . . . I really wonder if it was the sad state of my gut to begin with ???????? And most here have major issues to begin with . . . so it could be that the poll you are taking is from folks who all had gut issues to start with. I hope you do well. Keep us posted. Blessings!

I was fortunate, the GI's office gave me a sample, so I did not have to pay for it. I am just hoping I can keep it down.  The doctor did give me zofran, and it works great so hopefully that will help.

I asked about doing the fleet kit because that is what I had always done, but they GI said they have found that the phospho soda and the other stuff in the fleet kit causes kidney failure. I don't want that either. 

I'm gonna just pray real hard while I drink it.

Thanks wicks . . . *sigh* Darned!! I was kindof thinking about sneaking off to the drug store next time and use the phospho soda instead of the lytly stuff. I'm glad you have the zofran. *clapping* I hope it helps!! OH! Hubby had to use the Go-Lytely and he had a hard time getting it down, but didn't make him ill. Blessings!

They gave me some Sprite to wash it down with. Didn't help. Maybe mixing it might help some. But I think that stuff is just vile no matter what!

Best prep for me is just old citrate of magnesium. Not the best tasting stuff but it does not take a lot to get the job done. I usually get the little pills withg it too.
