sure would be nice if they said which strain of bacterium it was. i wish they had more detail instead of another promise of something working, like the meds they keep releasing. but hey, at least they are doing something, and something that is not medicine related. hopefully this leads to something beneficial for us all.

I wonder if taking antibiotics kills off all the good bacteria in our bodies.  I also wonder if people who don't take them don't develop Crohn's.

That's an interesting thought, Illy... but...

Plenty of people take antibiotics who don't develop Crohn's...

And... I can tell you that I hardly took any antibiotics at all... (There was one time I took one for a stomach virus for a very short period of time... I can't recall if I ever took any before the age of five) But... after that... that was pretty much it. Getting me to take any kind of medicine was a real struggle... and I never took cold medicine.

Of course, Crohn's is a very interesting disease... Interesting on how individual it can be and everything. So, maybe antibiotic use factors in on that, somehow...

They could be people who never got the beneficial bacteria from their mother, which LOOKS like a genetic problem, with no specific gene involved.

I was a breast-fed baby and was weaned straight to cows milk (which I was severely lactose intolerant of) never had formula, my mom gave me breast milk, juice and water, she breast fed me for just over a yr...she has UC herself, her IBD didn't develop until she was in her mid 60's, a few yrs after I got sick with crohns...it's definitely a genetic thing, with envrionmental triggers...it's a matter of it being triggerd, look how old my mom was before hers was set off....that's why I always say, no one eles in my family (siblings) are necessarily safe from getting IBD, they could very well have it and it just hasn't been triggered yet.
