Just Saw On ER

I was just watching ER before work and they had a patient come in complaining of abdominal pain. A doctor and a nurse were standing over him rattle off different possibilities and then the nurse whispered into the Doctors here and he goes "oh my it could be Crohn's Disease, we better get started". I I thought this was a little funny, Ive have never heard crohns mentioned on ER before.

So how did the drama unfold? Was it portrayed accurately?

I know,, they stuck a scope up his fanny, gave him a ton of pills, plus pred, and sent him home with a follow up appointment in 3 months. Then they told him they had no idea what if anything was wrong and referred him to a GI. The GI did the scope from both ends and said the same thing. After two or three years of pain and D , plus 4 more doctors he finally had a camera pill,( that his insurance then refused to pay for) and TA DA, "we are 95% sure you have crohns. " Thus began the continuing saga know as,,,,As the stomach turns. Next week we hear the patient say,," I'm sick of being sick, why cant I be normal ? " Tune in next month for the gut wrenching sequel,,, My life is in the toilet....

Sniper, that is so funny what you wrote At first I thought that was what really happened on the show but then thought, huh, an episode doesn't usually span so much time. Then I realized you were writing your own Funny! Unfortunately its true too often.

I watch Trauma, , Diagnosis X and Mystery Diagnosis all the time. Recently there was one on where the diagnosis was "Undifferentiated Seronegative Spondyloarthropathy" I've seen many that *seem* like they are going to be IBD but turn out to be something else.

That episode of Private Practice actually gave me goose bumps when I watched it...I thought they did a good job of showing how difficult it is to convince some people that there really is something wrong with you!
