Flare??

If you have any symptoms related to the disease, does that mean you are in a flare?  Sorry...the whole flare/remission thing has me stumped.  sad

My interpretation of that is:

Generally, flare means temporarily getting worse than the baseline and remission means coming back to the baseline.

For me, the baseline is 5-6 bathroom trips a day, occasional mild gut discomfort, etc. A flare for me is usually an increase in bathroom trips and a day or three of serious stomach pain followed by a few days of severe arthritis. After that, I usually return pretty quickly to "normal", the baseline.

But again, it's different for each individual by intensity, frequency, etc. I'm not sure it can get more specific than that given the wild variation of the disease between people with it ...

When I'm in remission I only poo once or twice a day and there is NO BLOOD associated with my stool. I can live life as normal BUT still watch what I eat.

When I'm flaring I have bloody stool and mucus, going between 15-20 times a day. Sometimes only blood and mucus comes out of my anus. I usually "pee out of my butt" during a flare. I haven't really had any joint pain associated with my Crohn's. Also, when flaring I tend to lose quite a bit of weight. Blood has always been associated with a flare for me, but I know some folks have flare ups with no blood. This has never been the case for me.

When I'm in remission I only have one to two bowels a day and no blood in stool. I'm also drug free and just control by diet and exercise.

When I'm in a flare, I pee out my butt as well along with bloody stool. I have a lot of cramping and every time I eat something it just comes right back out. I also drop weight and have sever joint pain. I usually have to go on meds to get it back in remission.

This has always confussed me too. I don't think i've ever been in remission as my bowels are very far from normal and i have to really watch what i eat but i've been able to reduce my meds right down and am maintaining a healthy weight.

So, while im not flaring, i'm not in remission either.

When i'm in a flare i have severe pain, blood in stools, D, weight loss, vomiting- all of the time. Right now i have gas, bloating, nauseau, mush. So kind of a watered down version of a flare. I suppose these symptoms are now my 'normal'.

Anymore, the only time I feel somewhat normal is when I am on or just finished getting off the prednisone.  Then, I swear, a few weeks after that and it all starts up again! 

Sometimes I think I am finally beginning to understand this disease but then I realize I really don't. 

That makes a lot of sense about the "baseline."
