can you take excedrin?

I know we're not supposed to have meds with aspirin but I'm dealing with a headache--again--that only seems to go away with excedrin. Is it really a real no-no? Anyone take it regularly? Any other ideas?

Yes, I can see why you asked, been on Pentasa before, and I think I took Tylenol, or advil. Just harder on your stomach too take too many asprin with Pentasa, I would think. Call your pharmacy, they know their drugs. Good luck, I usually dont get headaches, only some meds cause it.

ditto teddybearwiser. Basically, don't take anything that has a warning of stomach bleeding. That pretty much leaves Tylenol or Rx meds.

Yeah, advil definitely  a no-no. Having said that, when I get headaches, Tylenol doesn't touch it. Unless I want it to turn into a cripling migraine and be useless for the next two days I have to take Excedrin. Basically I weigh the options: more bleeding or headaches that make it even painful to blink, not kidding, AWFUL pain. I try to wait it out for as long as possible, but when the pain is so bad I can't sleep, or I wake-up at 4 am and am unable to get out of bed to get meds, I take the risk and try to head it off the next time I feel that way. Guess it's really just a personal call.

I think Kasper87 is doing it the smart way. Its tylenol and caffiene. But, I also (very rarely) when I get a bad headache will take one Aleve. Once in a blue moon isn't bad, but not daily or even on frequent schedule. Just once in a blue moon as I said. But NSAIDS are big no no's for us.

Excedrin is not a problem @ all (from my experience). I always take it when I have a headache or start of a migraine and it is the only thing that gives me any relief! Obviously, taking any pain medication too much isn't good but you are not doing that!

I've never had a problem with it, or aspirin for that matter. Still, I'd be cautious using any 5 ASA drug with either...

I have no problems taking Advil or Excedrin. I get migraines, and Tylenol does not touch that pain at all, even with caffeine. I usually take Advil (three and sometimes four at a time) with a Coke for bad headaches or migraine. If you take it at the beginning of a migraine it works so much better than waiting for the pain to get horrible. It is important to always have something on your stomach before taking asprin or Advil though.

All I take is Tylenol. I do get a bad migraine a few times a year, and that's when they give me Vicodin. Thankfully I don't get those very often (blood pressure meds keeps them at bay). But no, NO NSAIDS!

I was once taking aspirin often for stress headaches I was getting at work. I had no idea I had Crohn's yet. But yeah, I ended up with a sever GI bleed. Four days in the hospital, 2 colonoscopies (along with other tests). Ended up losing over half of all the blood in my body. No NSAID is worth that for me. I steer clear.

Yes only acetaminaphin is all we are allowed, as the others do cause us to bleed. FYI, This is a really old post. I might suggest you start a new post in the future as these older posts are usually not responded to as folks tend to think they already answered it. Good luck!

I think what you have to think about and consider is how your crohn's reacts. I've never had bleeding problems with my crohn's and I take aspirin (because of clots) daily. I also have talked to my GI because I have a hand injury that isn't responding to steroid shots, so I'm taking a rx anti-inflammatory. When I talked to her, she said that since my crohn's isn't currently active and I don't have bleeding problems, it might cause a flare, but it's up to me whether or not I choose to take them.

Keep in mind, I know I've NEVER had bleeding problems with my crohn's, so it's not as risky for me.

Oh, and she also told me when I first started going to her that occasional use isn't too terrible, and I shouldn't suffer with something like a migraine or menstrual cramps for fear of taking an NSAID.
