Hi All-

I had my fourth remicade infusion last Wednesday, 7/2. I haven't been feeling well, which is typical, but I have this pain on my left side of my body. It hurts to move. It feels like I have a huge bruise, but I don't. Any time I move, it hurts. Could this be a remicade interaction or could I have pulled a muscle? If I breathe in too deep or hold my stomach in the pain gets worse. Should I call the dr? I just feel bad calling on a weekend, but it doesn't hurt bad enough to go to the hospital. I am always worried that I am a whiner. Any advice? The thing that worries me is that the pain is there constantly and if something is brewing maybe I should call the on call dr.

Kgirlie,

I completely understand your reluctance to call the doctor on the weekend and your desire to avoid sounding like a whiner.  I tend to avoid bringing up any medical issues that are not related to my crohn's disease so that I don't give the doctor the impression that I worry about everything.  On the other hand, I think it is very important to make sure that small problem still become big problems.  Does your community have a telephone line that you can call for medical advice?  I know a lot of communitites here in Canada have these lines staffed by registered nurses who will advise you whether or not you should go to the emergency room.  Also, some medical plans provided by employers have numbers you can call for medical advice as.  You may want to call them to see if your pain is anything that needs immediate attention.

I've never been on remicade so I don't know what the side effects are.

Yup, most insurance companies have triage lines where you can call and talk to a nurse. They will tell you if in their opinion it is worth a call to your doc, a visit to urgent care, or a trip to the ER. If they think it is something you can handle at home they can give advice about how to make yourself more comfortable.

You should get it checked. It could be appendicitis. That normally shows on the right side, but a friend of mine had it migrate to the left side. One quick test is "rebound sensitivity". Press the sore spot and let go. If it is sore after letting go it could be appendicitis.

Thanks for your responses. I called my dr and he said he didn't think it was a reaction. He said it sounded like a pulled muscle. It probably is. I will just rest and try not to move much. I guess I am so sick of being sick that I am worn out. Thanks again!!

No, but I put on 70 lbs from the prednisone, so I probably sneezed or something. It went away today for a while and then came back. I think something is brewing, but it better go away fast because I am drowning in medical bills. I am tired of waiting to get better. I have been on remi since April and I am starting to get really sick again fast. I am just resting everyday and hoping my obstruction I had last January isn't brewing again.

have you tried heat or ice o the bruise and the hurting area? Heat really helps my muscles and aches---had a terrible pain down my right leg last week, almost unbearable.. Also, a long shower or hot bath (let someone know you are going in before you do in case you don't feel well.). Hope you are on the mend.
