Breastfeeding and Remicade

Yes, it is safe. Here is the link to Dr. Thomas Hale's information. He is the leading expert on medications and mother's milk. He publishes an updated version of his book every year.  In basic terms the remicade molecule is thought to be too large to pass through to the milk. IF any amount at all gets through he says that amount is "negligable".  I b/f'd my first child for 6 months and my 2nd child for 8 months while on remicade. They are both healthy and intelligent. No negative effects.

You could also check with a lactation consultant,they are very helpful,and work closely with docs and pharmacist.

Yes, Dr. Wenstrom from Vanderbilt informed me that BF with Remicade is perfectly fine. I chose not to because it was proven that when my hormones flucuated, I flared up. (I did several rounds of infertility treatments). My Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist said it was fine as well, but it was my REproductive Endocrinologist who advised against it purely because he knew when my hormones went up and down and were not stable, I flared. So, once I delivered, I went straight back to birth control pills to regulate my hormones. I did end of flaring (in it now) and they are doubling my Remicade now.

Do not be surprised if you go several months without symptoms after child birth and then have symptoms. It's typical for pregnancy to cause flares after the drop in hormones.
