At work, I have a desk very close to the bathrooms.  There is a door between the bathrooms and this part of the office to provide quiet and privacy.  Two of the lawyers I work for have offices on my wing.  I went to leave the wing to get an envelope, thank goodness not to go to the bathroom, and the door would not open.  I thought it was locked so I turned the little knob on the doorknob.  No luck.  In either position it wouldn't open.  There is no other way out.  Right on the other side of that door are the bathrooms and multiple exits but nothing on our side.  AND we are on the second floor.  I got one of the lawyers and he couldn't get it open either.  We couldn't kick it because it swings in, not out.  We called someone on the otherside of the door to come up w/ her key and try it.  She had a hard time opening it too but after about 7 minutes or so got it open.  The little latch in the doorknob that acts as the lock is malfunctioning and will not fully retract.  That door will be staying open for the rest of the day.  But all I could think was thank God I wasn't on my way to the bathroom.  As it was I got super panicky when I realized we were stuck inside w/ no way out and no bathroom.  Phew.

glad you got that all straightened out before you did have to go to the bathroom! that would've been a nightmare!

That's as bad as being trapped in an elevator when you've got to go! (My biggest fear at work ever since the elevator broke down with me on it. Luckily it was only for about 10 minutes. Others have been trapped for over an hour! All our elevators are undergoing repairs this year, and until they're all fixed, it's a bit of a gamble. I can't handle walking up 8 floors either)
I'm glad the problem was solved without any bathroom emergency to add to the urgency in your case! I make a habit of a quick trip to the washroom before I board the elevators at work now -lol.

Oh my Fitzy,  I would go to the potty every hour or more just to make sure I get in there often. Bev, that is awful! I would push a button every couple of floors just to make sure the doors open! Karen

Sniper - I thought of that but I don't even have an office. I have an alcove with my desk right next to the door they were trying to fix. But I did start thinking about the lawyers offices and trash cans, as well as breaking out the window on the door and whether or not I would fit through it.

One day at work several years ago, we got a notice that the bathrooms would be closed for repairs for several hours the next day. This would be on a day late in the week when there are only a few of us in the building. Not a big deal for anyone else. I promptly told my boss I would not be in the next day. NO way was I working in a building without a bathroom for 2 minutes let alone 2 hours!

Glad it wasn't an emergency for you!
