ugh--my D has slowed down but my butt and my r-v are just plain leaking. Needless to say, passing gas is just not good at all. Anyway, I've taken to putting two carefrees together to salvage my undies and close--don't feel like I need it but I am keeping up with the immodium. It's just strange--anyone else experience this leaking?

Also, I need some help with keeping this anal tag clean. Toilet paper is just not doing it and I don't want to describe what else I'm trying. Any thoughts?

Going on a trip this weekend. Not going to be very easy.

Cottenelle makes some adult moist flusable wipes. I use them all the time and they have really saved my undies, They are not harsh either so don't irritate my tuss. Have a good time on your trip!

Hi Baby Wipes if your not sore might help with the cleaning.I leaked alot before resection how bad is your leakage? Hope you manage OK on your week-end .I got away for a few days and it certainly helped with my mental outlook .Nice to have some good memories .lol gail

the r-v just started up again and I'm trying to keep from developing a UTI. The bum isn't terrible but it's so inconvenient and worriesome. I'm running to the bathroom lots.

I have this problem too. They recently decided I don't have a fistula and that apparently the inflammation is just so bad that it's causing a lot of leakage. It started about two years ago and steadily gets worse as I flare and a bit better when I'm not. I wear an always pad (talk about your moisture locking material!) everyday and often change at least twice. When I'm flaring, the goo is out of control- so much so I usually will change pads four or five times and have to wear one all night.
I find it impossible to keep the anal tags totally clean without several potty breaks in between. Cottonelle makes fabulous wipes. I also use cottonelle ultra toilet paper. Also, a sitz bath can help reduce paper waste. I always prefer days when I end up going before my shower and can clean off there, but that doesn't always happen.

It totally sucks.

I'm not sure which option is more economical, but I always used cheap gauze 4"x4" squares to fight leakage. I bought them at Walgreens and Walmart... anywhere with a "First Aid" section. I could change the gauze often and it was easy to conceal fresh sets in the pocket of my jeans.

As far as keeping the area clean... I've heard a couple people on here mention taking a bottle of saline with them on trips for easy cleaning. I think they were referring to the cheap squeeze bottle kind you buy in the contact lens sections of pharmacies... They would just keep the bottle in their purse or backpack and spray down if they had a bowel movement "on the road". Maybe one of them will chime in here shortly.

I've got a 10 hour drive ahead of me tonight, and I'm fighting the big D myself. I will definitely have a small package of wet-wipes with me!

I was really grateful for the advice about using gauze when I first developed my fistula. I use a small wad of tp, though - cheap and easy.

Don't forget zinc cream, Lanisoh and similar ointments.

I do what patientspiders does....

except I buy mine at our medical supply store and I get 200, 12 ply 4x4 gauze pads for around $6. I take 2 of them, and fold them in half and tuck them right in my butt crack. I have a fistula next to my anus, so that is why I use them. But also, I have the leakage from my anus after a bm, so that helps that also. I have absolutely no irritation from the drainage, and I just change the gauze whenever I use the bathroom.

As far as the rv fistula goes....when I had mine, my gyn. told me to put crisco on the area down there....not on the fistula but close to it, and above it to preserve that area down there. I cannot tell you what a difference that made. It was getting raw when I saw him, and then I started doing that, and it healed and never got raw again. I wore a pad to catch the drainage from the rv fistula, and mine was a large fistula. He had me blow dryer the area on cool after my shower in the morning and then apply a layer of crisco, and it was good for the day. I do recommend buying separate crisco, and not using the jar you cook with. :)

thanks for the tips--most helpful. today I just wish the r-v would slow down. I don't know why it's so active--the D has slowed down. sigh. . . mysteries of this disease.

Hi .I also use tp for my leakage.I still have to change it quite regularly+/-4 times a day.I suppose if leakage is heavy tp will definately not be helpfull for you.

i wipe extensively, dabbing at it (i have several skin tags, and the surrounding area leaks clear fluid) until its dry/stops bleeding, and then apply calmoseptine ointment. its helped a TON. you cant get it at most pharmacies without asking them to make a special order, but its worth it. dont need a prescription or anything, they just dont typically keep it in stock. i wont wear light colored (white or khaki) pants while im flaring, or if im just having a bad day.
