muscle relaxer instead of pain meds?

I asked my Dr. today for pain meds. and she said to try muscle relaxers instead, and see if that helps the pain.  Has anyone ever done this for CD pain?  I never had this happen before, new PCP, and she doesn't want me on the addictive pain meds if she can help it.  Sh said she will give them to me if these don't work.  It just sounds odd to me to take muscle relaxers?  Anyone with any experince here?

I've asked my GI doc for a prescription for a pain medication for those times when it becomes unbearable and he said "take Tylenol".  Ya, real sympathetic...I decided then that he won't be much help.  I was seeing my PCP for another issue and she gave me a muscle relaxer.  I took half of one because I'm kind of a lightweight with meds.  It sure made me feel better and did not seem to irritate my CD at all.  I haven't actually taken it due to CD pain though.  I might try it someday   

Was your doc talking about the antispasmodics like hyosciamine or bentyl? Those actually do work for some people though they are not very strong. I call mine my pain pill because I only take it when I am in pain.
