I think someone one here said something about obstructing with a pill cam. I can't remember who it was but can you please tell me your symptoms?

It might have been me. I received the pill in March of 2004. I never saw it pass. Then a few months later I began to have intermittent obstructions. Finally,I had two wish you were dead obstructions. My G.I. would not discuss it. The surgeons he reccomended to fix my "stricture" would not see me. On my own, I took my exrays and found a surgeon to do the surgery. I peeked at my exrays and there it was hung up at an old stoma site. I had carried it around for 15 months! My emergency surgery was in June 2005.

In short, if it is stuck you will probably have an obstruction. If you feel that's the deal, insist on an xray. It will show up.

They have a dissolvable one that you can try before the real thing. If that passes then it's a go for the pill cam, if not..no worries, it just dissolves.

I was told that 13% of patients will not pass the camera. But of course the "fix", surgery, also fixes what the camera was sent down to DX, except that then it becomes more of an emergency situation. Also, now more doctors are using the disolvable pill camera first to make sure that this isn't an issue.

Hi I thought they did a X-ray after having the cam to see if it passed gee Dave thank goodness you got threw all that.

The last time I had a pill cam I was also taking stool samples- SO I got to see it again. But the first time I had it done I never saw it. It worried me for a while but I guess I didn't realize what could really happen.

You can have an x-ray if you want to. My GI gave me orders for one and said if I didn't notice the pill come out, I could get an x-ray if I wanted to. I've had so many x-rays I should be glowing so I just checked every time I went to see if it came out.

I took the pill on a Thursday morning and it came out Sunday night even though I had D about 8x/day since Thursday night.

I had an xray and they said they did not see it.
But they found some hinky growths in my small intestine and they are going in after it.

They are suppose to do an X ray if you do not see it pass. The darn thing has a battery in it and even if it does not cause an obstruction your body will start to digest it and battery stuff is not good for you as you could guess. Dave, your doc is an A hole and you should have filed charges against him.

I never saw mine again (I did keep looking!) and no one cared and I never had an xray afterward. I never got to see the results, either, so the whole thing was a bust!

well they are going in laposcopically to rule out cancer, but if they can't get it by lap then it is gut canyon time. I hope they can get it by scope.

thanks you two, I don't know yet. My GI is trying to figure out a way that they don't have to do gut canyon and getting the surgery scheduled.

You are right. My G.I. was (is) an A hole. Plus, I almost bought the farm not recovering from the surgery, first losing too much blood then having an Asthma attack from all the trauma. I don’t think I could survive another massive surgery like that one.

I retained the best medical mal practice atty I could find out of Miami. However his “expert” said the obstruction was caused by the Crohns, not the camera. Then, about a year later, the same A hole Dr. was busted for forging an ex partners prescriptions for pain killers. I again wrote the hotdog atty and he said unless I could prove he was high when he gave me the pill, I still had no case.



All I gained was that I no longer do doctor worship.

       You know, I can pass ( at random times) regular meds before they dissolve, I doubt this would be an issue. tongue

       On the other hand, those with possible strictures would be advised caution here, I think..
