Small intestinal bleeding, ulcer in terminal ileum

I have had 5 transfusions and 2 episodes of bleeding over the past week.

The doctors have scoped be top and bottom as far as they can go, and found only some minor ulceration in the terminal ileum.

I am a crohns patient for 15 years, this is the first time I ever bled.

I have had 1 resection 3 years ago, and my doctors are now saying I will most likely have to get another resection in the next few weeks to remove the ulcerated section of small bowel.

A few questions:

1- Has anybody had small bowel bleeding episodes?
2- Is there a better way to treat a small intestine bleeding ulcer?
3- Is a bleeding Ulcer normal in Crohn's?

Any info would be great.

I had a bleeding ulcer in my small intestine and it healed on its own, or possible the prednisone. It wasn't as severe as what yours sounds like. Good luck

I had a severe bleed a few weeks ago. My GI did an endoscope, sigmoid and colonoscopy and hasn't found the source of the bleed yet.

I 've had bleeds before that have stopped and mysteriously healed ... so I don't know what is happening with my small bowel either.

Yes, I was hospitalized with a major GI bleeding event. I had an ucler that was bleeding in my TI. So he was able to reach it by scope, and he cauterized it shut. I lost half of all the blood in my body in less then 24 hours. It was quite scary, and how I got diagnosed to begin with.

Not sure if there is another way to fix it for you, since they can't reach it by scope like they did for me. It's awful though I know. I was so anemic afterwards, I felt like I couldn't even breathe walking around my house. They didn't give me any blood transfusions though. They said I could "rebuild" it back on my own, with lots of iron supplements. That was not a fun year.
