New to Crohn

God help me, my first post, how did this happen? My son, 19yrs, need I say more?

Robby was d/c from Mt. Sinai on Saturday. It was our first hospitalization since Dec. diagnosis. He's so sick again, I don't know what to do. I am waiting for a call back now from Dr. Ullman, he is our hero. Someone posted "We can't control the waves but we can learn how to surf" I just fell off the board, but I'm climbing back on....he's my baby.

First off welcome to Healingwell. You will find alot of helpful and supportive people on this board. Secondly, I am sorry your son is so sick. I was diagnosed at 18 and was really sick my first flare. But I want you to know things will get better, sometimes it just takes time to find the right meds. What kind of medications is he on? What are his doctors plans in treating him? Has anyone helped you to develop a diet for him? We are all so individual as far as food goes. But make sure he is ALWAYS on some type of maintainence medication and get help possibly from a nutritionalist is the best advice I can give. Good luck and hope he gets feeling better soon.

I am so sorry you have to be here, but welcome to a wonderful spot. keep asking questions, as you will find lots of very helpful information here. try to breathe thru the next couple months, as they are the most stressful with tests and meds and such.

One thing I think many people find comforting is that they're not alone. Welcome to HealingWell.

You strike me as a worried parent who might be feeling slightly overwhelmed.. and thats understandable. I'm going through a rough patch right now, but I'll make it, and once I find a drug that keeps my Crohn's under control, I can resume a fairly normal life. While I'd love to have a cure for Crohn's, I wouldn't change anything about my past. It is because of Crohn's that I understand how much my parents love and care for me, how close my friends are, and it has also forced me to confront my unhealthy lifestyle choices. I'm still working on the last one, but the point is, the single thing that has helped me survive Crohn's both physically and mentally is my parents. I know they sometimes feel helpless, but they don't realize what an enormous comfort is is to just have them be there for me.

Hi When I was at my sickest it was helpful to be in the hospital where I got good care. It was scarry at first but I have learned alot since then. Hoping you will be able to stop worrying and let the Dr.s take good care of him. Sometimes we get pretty sick and we sure do enjoy the better days. Your son will have better days ahead of him. Let us know how things are going for you both. lol gail

Hang in there mom!! Once your son gets on the right meds that will work for him, he will be ok!!!
My mom worried about me alot when I was sick too. The best thing she did was be there for me!!
She isn't with us anymore but I know if she was, she would be right here with me now with this flare.
Things will get better I promise!!
