Pain coming in waves

I'm having pain today, and it comes in waves and goes away.  Someone here said once that pain coming in waves signalled an obstruction.  However, I had a small bowel x-ray last month and it looked almost normal, just some nodulation in the terminal ileum.  I'm burping and had a bowel movement today and last night as well.  So I'm confused.

Can this type of pain mean something else?

I am no expert but could be a bad sign or nothing. So call the doctor. I would stick to liquids till you hear back. If the pain worsens I would not hesitate to go to the ER. that is what I would do. maybe some of the obstruction experts will be by... Karen

Where is the pain located? All over or in a specific area? Each time I have had a kidney stone the pain was wave-like. I've never had an obstruction so I can not speak on that.

The pain is above the belly button towards the front and radiates to the sides.

Hi I burped all the time before I ended up in hospital with my obs. What kind of bowel movement did you have? lol gail

It was normal and well formed, like I've been having for the past month and a half since I quit gluten. My gut has felt great for the past month, strange that it's come on all of a sudden. I've had no waves for 2 hours now, I'll try a light supper mostly liquid and see how it goes.

Possibly a partial obstruction that has cleared??? Just a thought.

Hard to say. Thanks for your thoughts guys. I ate dinner2 hours ago and no problems so far.....

Last night I had some brown rice pasta and it was firmer than I usually have it, it had kind of dried out. Maybe that irritated something.

Maybe it was gas? I've had several incredibly painful gas episodes. They last about 2 - 3 hours and can hurt in waves. Often I know something is up when I get a knot in my stomach and feel full. Quite nasty!!

Yes I always get gas when my stomach isn't happy. I just wasn't sure if gas could come in waves. Thanks for your thoughts!
