Diagnosed with severe pancreatitis

Well my levels of over 700 was diagnosed as severe pancreatitis ...there is a good note ...after 4 1/2 days of being so afraid this was it for me ..and I wasn't ready to go yet .. I stopped eating as I was told....second blood test now has my levels down to 45!

Is that possible? or is all of this a mistake? I am so confused...

I have the symptoms for sure and the more I read the longer I have had them except no one ever did this test except for this new GI who I went to for the very first time 2 weeks ago!

A series of other blood tests were done but wont be back till next week...he is trying to figure out where and why I got it ...

I am still so confused. I had just resigned a very stressful job I wanted badly to leave and was going to work from home but then this happend three days after I turned in my letter. Today I had to give a rescind letter and humble myself to stay. I had to write the stay at home job ( which was going to be wonderful ) to decline the job I would have started on Monday and all because of insurance...with this new diagnosis I was too afraid that if something happend only days or weeks into this new job. I could risk having a job at all not to mention end up without insurance too.

Im kinda sad right now.

if any one can share with me about pancreatitis I would appreciate it.

Im sorry to hear of all the trouble you are having Misterie.
I had acute pancreatitis from taking Imuran - I woke up one day with unbelievable pain and went to the ER and after blood tests and scans was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. I spent 4 days in hospital on a IV fluids and nil by mouth. After I was released from hospital I was fine and so long as I stopped taking the Imuran I should be right - that was in 05.
Is it one of the meds you are on that is causing this?

I was in the hospital for 3 days before the docs ran the test for pancreatitis.  I had been NPO before the diagnosis because we only knew that it had to do with the digestive tract, crohn's related.  Labs were very high, so I spent 8 days in hospital with IV and pain pump.

When I got out I wanted to know why I got pancreatitis, so Dr. did an ERCP which showed chronic pancreatitis, no known cause.  After the ERCP I developed pancreatitis again, which is a risk after they do the ERCP.  I was in hosp. again for another week!!!  What an ordeal sad !!!

This occured in 2003 and I have had pain but no elevated labs since.  A gastro specialist at our teaching hospital did an EUS to check the pancreas again, and again no cause that he could see.  The only drug I had been on was Entocort prior to the attack.

Just from some stuff I was reading - beans and particularly soy milk and tofu contain trypsin inhibitors which have been shown to cause pancreas hypertrophy and hyperplasia. I would guess that regular consumption would be irritating. I don't know if this applies to your case though.

It's normal for the tests to go back down days after and that's a good thing. Im's assuming you're talking about amalyse and lipase levels. I suffered from many acute attacks of pancrea*** since the age of ten and probably before without being diagnosed. I am now 30 years old and very rarely get an attack. I can not tolerate NSAIDS nor alchohol. So there are many causes for attacks even fatty food and a large concumption of food. I never had damage from the attacks which is amazing. That always seemed to be the only thing the docs were afraid of, whether or not the attack caused any damage. Mine always lasted three or four days and my numbers would always drop back down to norma daysl after the attack, so this is a very good thing. I'm sure your doc is reviewing everything you may have consumed before the attack and hopefully they find a link. Gallstones are big cause. did they check you for that?

They never found a cause for mine, during it i had my gallbaldder removed and my pancreatic duct cut wider.
