Pentasa as primary medication?

Does this stuff help? I'm curious if any of you are taking it as your primary treatment for Crohn's in remission. Any side effects? Thanks!

Pentasa is the only medication I am currently on.  I was diagnosed in January and was on pentasa as well as prednisone to stop my flare.  I have been off of prednisone for 3 months and am doing fine.  I don't have any side effects, but I know some people feel that it does not help them or some people's symptoms get worse.  I do have some gas and gas pain, but other than that I am fine.  This disease is so individual, as are the medications that will help each person.  Are you taking pentasa now?

I take the sister medicine to Pentasa called Asacol. It is the only Crohns med I take. Before my resections I took Pentasa, since my resections I am now maintained only on Asacol. I personally believe everyone should be on some kind of maintenance med. And you couldn't ask for a milder medication with little to no side effects. And you can take it during pregnancy too. Pentasa is used to treat if CD is in large colon, asacol is helful for small bowl. Been on pentasa for 3-4 years now and even after recent colonoscopy shows some inflammation my doc wants me still on pentasa with combo of 6mp for some days.

Actually VCD you have that reversed. The Pentasa is for the small bowel and Asacol for the large.

Have been on Pentasa for 7 years. Up until recently, it was the only medication I have ever taken for CD and I never had any side effects. But due to a fistula, I started Remicade two months ago. So far so good. Continuing with the Pentasa as a back up.

i have been on Pentasa for 4 years and prednisone for flares ups. They wanted to put me on 6mp last year but that didn't work out too well. So, far so good. Plus I eat lots of yougurt too and I take Allign.

Pentasa is my primary medication. My Crohn's is only in my small intestine and stomach and I take Pentasa (for the crohn's in the small intestines) and Protnix (for the crohn's in the stomach). I've heard mixed reviews about it, but for me it has been working great!
