Pain after resection

First response is that you should talk to you surgeon. If it is a complication, you don't want it to get any worse especially with fresh surgery. But, having had a resection myself, there are things to keep in mind. I don't know how long your surgery was, but it takes a significant amount of time for the anesthesia to leave your body. My nurse told me it was one week per hour under anesthesia. Besides knocking you out anesthesia works as pain reliever. So some of the pain and discomfort you are feeling might just being the anesthesia wearing off. Also, I don't know what your activity level is, but if you're up moving around alot it might be your body adjusting. After all, when you're in the hospital, you can't get up and do a lot of things. There are so many variables that come into play when having a resection that it's hard to put a finger on it. But again, call your surgeon. Let them check you out. If you get the "all clear" then start examining other factors that could be affecting you. Your body has just had a major trauma, it may be just adjusting. Like a car accident where you feel fine the first day or two but then suddenly your back and neck are cramped and sore (and not just for insurance purposes :). The anesthesia and other pain meds could have delayed that cramped response. Good luck and let us know what your doctor says!
