Can you just stop taking Imuran without having to taper? (?Pancreatitis)

Good morning.  I have been having some abdominal discomfort and back pain.  My GI checked my pancreatic enzymes and they are elevated.  He said I could be recovering from a mild case of Pancreatitis, or just getting it.  I am on 50mg of Imuran, and he told me to stop it completely, no taper needed.  Has anyone ever just stopped Imuran?  Should I look for any side-effects?  Thank you so much for your time.  Blessings, Julie :-)

I've never tapered when taking Imuran and never noticed any side effects. (my dose was 150mg)

Julie, I didn't taper either, just stopped cold turkey. I had no side effects or other symptoms at all. I guess as it takes couple of months when you start the medication before it takes effect, it will leave your system slowly as well...

I just stopped taking it on Doc's orders because it wasn't doing much good. He said to just discontinue it, don't bother taking it anymore, and I was on 150mg a day. I didn't notice any real side effects, but I started entocort that next day.

when they took me off imuran and put me on methotrexate i did not taper

During one particular bad spell, I was hospitalized multiple times and for some reason, the admitting doctors just never ordered my 6mp (basically the same as Imuran, just metabolize differently). So I was off suddenly for about 4 months. Started back up just as suddenly. No issues on either end.

I stopped Imuran immediately after it started to damage my liver. Symptoms were fever, shaking , chills, overall body aches-terrible
