Well I had my CT Enterography yesterday.  This test is supposed to be able to view your small bowel better than a SBFT.  What a adventure!!!  shocked

I had to drink 3 bottles of this sweet tasting stuff.  Wasn't that bad, at least in comparison to that yucky barium.  I managed to get 2 1/2 bottles down, then I had to drink 8 ounces of water.  I must have pee'd 3-4 times before I even had the Catscan, thats alot of liquid.  Surprised I didn't puke.

The adventure part came when they had to start my IV.  I have such small crooked veins that it took them 4 (pokes) nono times before they got it in.  Then when they put the contrast thru the IV, YOWEE is all I had to say.  I had great people there helping me out though, they told me to scream if I wanted to, which of course I did!!! turn

This test was done to see how things were looking in my small bowel, since I can't do c-scopes anymore.  Hopefully he got his answers because I am not looking forward to anymore tests anytime soon:)  If it shows any inflammation, I will go back on 6mp.  Personally I think everything is okay right now, but we will see.

Just thought I'd share my adventure.

hey nanners! that is quite an adventure! but pain from the iv? eep! i would have screamed, too! poor thing :/

i guess my good news is now my gi changed his mind and said my strictures HAVE loosened up some! how crazy is that??? i am going to talk to my pcp to possibly get a referral for a new gi, mostly blaming it on driving too far to see the one i currently have.

hope your tests have good results!!

Nanners, what was the problem w/the contrast thru the IV that you wanted to scream?? Is it that not only do they have trouble getting the IV set it is also painful to have anything run thru your veins? That they had to "push" the contrast so fast? Or was the contrast they use a stinger?

I'm not being unsympathetic. I'm just curious 'cause I had a CT Enterography in April and had no more discomfort than for any CT scan contrast or even just IV fluids, IV sedation, etc.

Whatever, I'm glad the CTE is past for you and I hope the news is good!!! (((hugs)))

I had a CT yesterday -- chest, abdomen, pelvic -- 1-year follow-up from the Prochymal study.  Three tries for the IV (OUCH, it was through the bruises the nurses gave me 5 days prior when they took 4 pokes for 2 vials of blood! my veins need a rest!)

The contrast dye stung for me when it first went into the vein.  I had forgotten that part from previous CTs but after I remembered that I feel the sting each time.  It does not seem to last for me, though. (Thankfully!)  It stings alright, so I can imagine if it lasted any amount of time wanting to scream!  ICK!

Oh - I had about 24 oz of blueberry barium.  I was thrilled not to throw up! ;-)

C2 not sure why it stung so bad. I have had the contrast thru the IV before too, and I don't remember it hurting so much. The IV they finally got in was in the inside of my left wrist, so maybe the location was the problem. Even the saline they put in first stung really bad too. So I am thinking it was more of the IV site.

You should have seen me praying they could get the IV in because I had already drank the stuff. I was like "please God let this IV go in, I don't want to drink this stuff again". Evidently it worked because I got thru the test. Phew!!!

I am curious what the test will show. Especially the reconnection site. My GI tried looking at that area with a C-Scope about a year ago, but because my left side of my colon is adherred to my body cavity with adhesions, he couldn't get past the first corner for fear he would perforate me.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Big hug(((((((Nanners))))))))...I know the contrast IV does give you that ,,,Warm All Over ,,,feeling...I know whats coming but I am always surprised at how fast it sets in and I am glad I went pee first as I would not like to mess up the table on the CT . Hope all the results are good for you and you dont need any more test for a long time.

Haha Sniper. I peed so much that day before the CT was even done from drinking all the liquid. I made sure I went right before the test because I knew that "warm all over feeling" (wink, wink) was coming and didn't want to make a mess either. They actually stopped giving me anymore of the contrast when I told them where I felt it:)

Ouch, Nanners! I HATE IVs set in the hand or wrist area!!! I'm fortunate that USUALLY my veins stand up and salute for a blood draw or IV set - but - when they suspect you might need an IV long term ... they DO like to start a first set "down there". Normally an IV set is not painful for me as evidently I have pretty good veins - but those hand and wrist sets do HURT!

I have problems getting "oriented" looking at the top down views from a CT but boy are those babies CLEAR and EASY to see stuff when they do the ... front to back views. (I was gonna say coronal but I think the coronal are the top down views).

I love it now w/these digital "films". We can get our own disk of them and the "software" needed to view the films are included right on the disk.

It sucks that our local endocscopy center and only local facility to do the pill cam can't provide us w/a CD of our scopes and PCEs. Grrrrr.

Anyway, here's to GOOD NEWS for you from this CTE!!! (((hugs))) Don't chya just hate the wait??

Nanners, you know how C2 loves her dirty pictures and videos. I have to admit I would like to have seen the film from my pill cam too ,,but I would not have liked the ending.
