Blood in your stool, but have none show up in the stool sample?

Hey there. I had visable blood in my stool when I had to do the fecal test and my tests came back normal. How that was possible I am not sure. The only thing I can figure is that they try to not use a surface sample which is where the blood was in my case since it was from fissures. The bleeding that I have experienced is usally a bright red blood like a cut and other times it is a bit darker and clotted which my GI says is from internal hemorrhoids. If you are having some significant bleeding that appears to be getting worse and is dark I would not wait until 10/15 to see the doctor. It is important to get those types of issues evaluated swiftly. Your family doctor should refer you to a gastrointerologist and they will most likely run some blood tests and potentially do an upper endoscopy (which is down the throat) and/or a colonoscopy. There is also a pillcam procedure where you swallow a little pill that contains a camera you wear a little pack around your middle that the pillcam transmits the photos to. This test gives the doctor a view of your whole digestive tract and places they can not reach with scopes. The tests are not bad as you are sedated for the upper endoscopy and colonoscopy and the pillcam is completely non invasive and you get to go home while the pillcam works its magic. As a side note do not start a gluten free diet yet if Celiac is a concern. If you go gluten free before the tests are done you can wind up with normal results when in fact you may have the disease. My Dr. told me to have a bread party leading up to my tests :) and I am glad I did since I have not had a crumb of gluten since my tests were positive. I can tell you that my symptoms were very similar to yours minus the weight loss. Hang in there.

I am pretty much in the same boat. I was Dx with Celiac 3.5 years ago and I got a little better on the GF diet. However the past year and a half I took a nose dive in health adding arthritis, fevers, vertigo & kidney stones. My first two colonoscpoies this year came back with chronic inflammation but they could not determine crohns or UC. My bloodwork had a very positive ASCA which is a marker for Crohns. My pillcam was normal and my last endo/colon two weeks ago was normal...yet I am still having issues. Even though I just turned 30 I feel like I am 80 ;). Sigh...I am sure they will figure us out eventually. Just keep pushing for answers.  By the way did they run the blood test on you for Celiac?
