Fistula Question

Hi guys,

Quick question in relation to fistulas. Basically i have never had one but i am curious as to the symptoms in the early stages of a fistula. Is it very gradual or a sudden thing. And how are they diagnosed if they are festering away inside you and you have no major symptoms? Would an SBFT or colonoscopy show any signs? Just a little worried as i am having some funny sharp pains and weird feelings!

Hi Lila I was having pain at the time I had mine so not sure if they hurt or not. Mine was shown up on CT and then I had a barrium ennema (sp) .One was to skin after a large abcess formed and I had abd surgery. They got ways of finding them and I was glad when they did not the resection they took out the pieces that had them . My pains were mostly from obstructions. lol gail

I had pain (anal/rectal fistula) but not much over my typical pain levels. I did have a sustained low-grade fever before I was able to note the abscess from the outside. Once the fistula was drained the fever went away. They found mine because I found the abscess...
