Hi all,

I have a different disorder in which I use Presdnisone. I have had excessive hairloss as well. I went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me Spironolactone. It works wonders! I hope you all can benefit from this.

The first time that I started losing hair was before I was diagnosed with Crohn's. I had been really ill and after my recovery, my hair started falling out. My doctor didn't know why but suggested it might be from all the stress my body had been through.Hair grew back.
This last March, I got food poisoning and had a very extreme diarrhea that would not go away, I was foolish and didn't go the doctor for a couple months expecting it to stop at some point, not good. After being put on a very strong antibiotic things started turning around.
But, I started losing some hair, a couple months later got really sick and was diagnosed with Crohn's and placed on medication for Crohn's and on prednisone, now hair was falling out like it was abandoning ship!!! Without exaggeration, I have lost 2/3 to 3/4 of my hair! I don't have bald spots, but really feel the breeze on my scalp. Before being diagnosed withCD I lost 40lbs due to illness and not being able and afraid to eat. I am now convinced that nutrition does play a huge role in hairloss. I was very anemic and have had trouble being able to keep iron in my system until very recently. I am off prednisone plus no longer anemic and just started feeling new hairs growing in this weekend! Yay I won't be bald by Christmas!!!!

With all the different meds I am taking my hair is getting really thin and I have a couple small bald spots. I started on a new shampoo therapy. It's Called nioxin. It's a three part process. The salon I got it from said a lot of cancer patients have started using it. I hope it works. :)

Hi i saw diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in Jan 2013 and it was managed for quite some time but have had constant flare ups over the last year and cannot get it under control biopsy results that came back in may 2013. said that it was more consistant with Crohns but my consultant still says I have UC ?!?! anyways I have been on and off prednisolone since oct as well as other meds (asacol which they recently changed to mezavant and azathioprine, but as above I have notice quite a bit hair loss and I'm getting a bit worried my bathroom floor seems to be covered in hair when I brush it and if I run my fingers through my hair it just seems to come out in clumps although I haven't noticed any bald patches it is definately thinning out if it keeps coming out like this I don't think I'm gonna be left with any hair - did any of the vitamins mention above help anybody any ideas, words of wisdom please its getting me down.

I feel your pain. When I first went onto prednisone (sept. 2013) with 40 mg for around a month and started weening off of it afterwards. I had EXTREME moon face and hair loss. I'm only 14 and I am really insecure about my looks. I have seen an increase on my appetite by far but I did lose a lot of weight. My main problems I have with pred side effects are probably my hair thinning.. it's very noticeable and it makes my hair look bad, also the moon face... my cheeks have gotten so chubby:(
but once I got off it my cheeks eventually went down after a month or so of not being on it. My hair still hasn't grown fully back. But I had a flare up in May so now I'm back on the prednisone I have been recently weaned of from being on 40 mg for about a month now I'm on 30. I haven't seen my hair falling out like it had before but my cheeks have gotten very chubby. I have also gotten more acne. I don't know what else I can do but I get bullied about my chipmunk cheeks and my hair being so thin and short. I've tried everything I could, well there's nothing I know of that I can do about my face. but for my hair I already went through a bottle of conditioner and shampoo that is supposed to volumize and thicken hair that I was on for about the past 3/4 months. I have not seen a huge improvement and I've also been taking folic acid pills for a month but I'm not taking them because I'm already taking a lot of other vitamins. Anyone have any advice of what I can do? (Kathryn 14)
