Possible colostomy?

I finally did it...after 10+ years of Crohns, numerous surgeries, 3 strokes, a nation full of my soiled under wear, I did it.  I phoned my Dr. and made an appointment to see him about having a colostomy.  In all other aspects my Crohn's is manageable (NO drugs thank you kindly) or rather I can handle the symptoms.  What I can't abide any longer is the frequent washroom trips, not being able to take car trips or, Im being honest here, my inability to "hold" what comes out of the rear end. 

Im getting married at the end of the month (he supports "our" decision fully), going back to school(Acupuncture) and I need a better quality of life.

My question to all of you is: Is this feasible? Anything I should be concerned with/about? Any feed back (pro's or con's) would be wonderful!!

i was facing a colostomy due to colonic inertia, not necessarily crohns but more likely than not crohns related/induced. the makers diet allowed me to skip that surgery (for now).

CD can come back at the ostomy point. you may get fistulas there too. hence you may need surgery later to change the ostomy site. totally ask tons of questions to your colorectal surgeon. have the ostomy site BELOW the belt line. make sure you mark this clearly on your person PRIOR to surgery so you dont have to have a second one to fix it.

talk to the peeps on the ostomy board here. they can help you i am sure. from people i've talked to with ostomies, they are happy they did it, however you are changing one set of problems for another. they can inform you about those.

REMEMBER - this is permanent - there is no changing your mind after the surgery.
