Hi Guy's

this will probabley be a stupid question to alot of you guys, but here goes.

With chrons and UC, there is always a chance of bleeding. Now, when reading the symptoms of chrons, you always hear about bloddy dierehaa. However, it never talks about loss bleeding.

When reading about UC it always talks about loss bleeding.

Why is that? Are they saying if you bleed loosly, it is not chrons?

Also, with IBS, why do they say that bleeding is not typical of it? My brother has had issues with bleeding but he was told that he has IBS? Where in the sense in that?

All these issue of the colon leave one a bit confused.

I assume you mean blood loss between bowel movements? Perhaps you might clarify?
Like it is leaking out (like a period does), this is not unheard of... I wear double pads, one in front and one in back to deal with the leaking blood.

I have never had just blood leaking from my anus before (how awful!!!!) The reason bleeding is more common with UC is because of the locations of UC being the rectom and colon and the ulcers....Bleeding can occur with CD as well, though not as common because a smaller % of CDers have their colon/rectom involved compared to the majority that have small bowel involvement...I however have crohn's colitis (CD of the colon) so it's not uncommon for me to bleed (although I haven't since taking naturals) but I've never bled "between" BM's (had it just leak out of my anus).

There is no bleeding from the intestinal tract regarding IBS (nor is there ever inflammation involved with IBS), only if there is a hemmie present then that would be the cause of blood for a true IBSer, unless one has both IBS and an IBD.

pb4, thatnks for that detailed answer.

I did not mean between BM, i meant when having a BM. Sometime when you need a BM, nothing but blood come out? Would that be correct?

I get occasional bleeding when having a BM, but it is from hemmies/anal fissure.

I was diagnosed due to such bleeding. In fact my only major Crohn's symptom before diagnosis was the bleeding during/before BMs (I've never even really had D with this disease). Definitely a scary thing to experience when you're not aware of such diseases. It was this bleeding which led me to have a colonoscopy and subsequently be diagnosed with Crohn's. Apparently the blood was coming from an inflamed area of my terminal ileum. Depending on where the inflammation/disease is located, that determines the diagnosis.

Yes, that has happend to me on very slight occassion, so it is possible, but usually when that happens to me I at least get some mucus with blood mixed in it...although thankfully it hasn't happend in ages now.

That can also happen with having internal hemerrhoides as well.

Blood loss during a BM happens to me daily, but as always I strongly encourage you to see your GI doc.
