melatonin and Crohn's?

just wondering if you guys think melatonin is ok to take if I have crohn's and am being treated with Humira?

I can't find much about the combination, but there was a report of melatonin triggering Crohn's-like symptoms in one case. There are no details about this report except an offer to sell the report for $50 to anyone interested. It appears to be a letter to the editor of some journal, so who knows whether it can be relied on. There are also positive reports citing benefits from taking melatonin for Crohn's.

I have read a number of warnings about the use of melatonin by people suffering from autoimmune disorders (which should include Crohn's). The following is typical:

While the jury is still out on this one, I'd remain cautious. And it's a pity, since I have a sleep disorder and would really like to be able to take melatonin.

I have Crohns for nearly 3 years now and it has been under control for several months now. (yay). I take melatonin a few times a week.  I dont really notice a side effect from it.  Some times (rarely) do have a hard time getting up in the morning, but i see it as i got a good night sleep.  thats more important to me.

my job has made me nocturnal for the last 3+ weeks. my body has never adjusted over completely. thus from the lack of sleep i feel like i am running on empty, my head in a cloud, and my energy levels are rock bottom. w/o melatonin, i sleep 2-3 miserable hours with no real REM, wake up for a few hours with my body feeling super fatigued but unable to sleep, then take a nap for 2-3 hours of crummy sleep again. after 2 weeks of that i began taking melatonin. i dont fall asleep any faster, but once i fall asleep i am OUT. i sleep a solid 6 hours now but it makes me groggy when i wake up, which takes a few hours to ware off. i dont use it every night as i dont want to, but being greatly sleep deprived for so long and knowing it is temporary use, i dont mind using it just so that i can semi mildly function. i cant wait to get back on the day shift. why cant the contractor just finish the darn project like he said he was going to 2 weeks ago!!!! arg.
