Hi Bitbit,
I had perianal disease which manifested itself via abcesses. They were very very painful and did not respond well to Remicade and were made worse by treatments of prednisone. I had a drain inserted into my perienium and was put on a long course of antibiotics. This was very painful and uncomfortable as the antibiotics cause diarhea and the placement of the drain made it almost impossible to keep the area clean.
I had the drain for 5 months when the doctor's suggested they disconnect me giving me an ileostomy so that the perianal abcess would have a chance to heal. I just had reversal surgery for the ileostomy after having it for 18 months. The abcess still has not healed completely but my intestinal Crohn's is in remission. I was told I have a 50/50 chance that the abcess will come back again but since I have a lot of intestine left and am only 31 I did not want to live with the bag forever and decided to take the risk.
Now, I am waiting to see. I hope the disease will not come back in this area and the doctors feel Remicade is the answer.
