Fistula v. Hemorrhoids

I have internal hemorrhiods, but every now and then I get an external bump that stings and is painful, but it seems to go away on its own. Now that I have a Crohn's diagnosis, I just want to know what to look out for. If anyone can help shed some light on the difference between fistulas and hemorrhoids, that would be helpful (or feel free to just explain fistulas to me). Thanks!

The external bump could be a hemmie as well or it could be a perianal crohn's skin tag which can easily be mistaken for a hemmie but is nothing like a hemmie nor should it have surgery on it like a hemmie...it's best if your Gi takes a look to confirm what's going on.

In addition to what pb4 has said, I have additional ideas. Sometimes when a person has diarrhea frequently or has pasty like stools, feces particles might "burn" the skin around the anal opening. These superficial irritations can cause localized reactions or bumps. I agree your best bet is to have your GI to take a look.

Hi Fistula is like a small hole that drains. Smetimes we have abcess in this area that can be painfull and I had one a month or so that did go away without too much of a problem but alot of people seem to need a lot of help as they can cause problems if left untreated.I did seek medical treatment for mine. I am having some hemmie problems now myself and just got back from getiing it looked at.

So the best thing to do is seek a Dr.'s advice then you know what is going on.lol gail
