Went in the the ER on Thursday. Admitted Thursday night as planned

Had lost 18 pounds while on prednisone for 6 weeks (I started at 220) so while I wasn't dying without strength I was losing the battle.

On Wednsday the night before I either had a partial bowel ostruction or a gastric flu so I had lost 5 lbs just over 24 hours.

On IV Prednisone with a few other antibiotics

Did a CT bowel scan which they have not told me the results yet but they were not really concerned with them in terms of an obstruction.

Ordering a small bowel follow through for later this coming week.

Admitted to a room with 3 elderly people....got to love Canada. I pay for a private room but there are non available because they are used for isolation for people with C Diff.

Have not eaten anything solid since Wednesday lunch yet still producing a bit of liquid diarea. Had Jello yesterday night and only had 3 BM thereafter so I don't think anything has started to work. They have all but ruled out bacterial infections so they have no clue yet whats happening.

They are not rushing me out of here but I must say I feel 98% and hate to be in hospital. Only thing is that I know going back to work and home is not going to make me feel better

I know it's awful having to be in there-but get yourself well and find out more about the obstruction-Keep your head up and I'll be praying for you- Use the time to get to relax-EAsier said than done I know. You're in my thoughts & prayers- Hope you feel better soon :)

Remind them that they don't know for sure what is causing your D and until they rule out you being infectious you should have your own toilet which would probably mean own room. I think even in the US people typically have to share a room - although you normally have 1 roommate.

Sorry about your roommates! I hope you feel better soon! It is good that you are seeing some improvement.

These roommates are fun

One guy keeps asking for a cigarette.....he's 110 or something (by the way I am 47)

One family...keeps on visiting another man next too me...I call them the VERY LOUD family....

and the woman accross from me....very nice person...says she has a big family....No visitors yet but I am hopefull for her that they come soon

ANYONE FOR STEAK!!!!!!!!

i actualyy dont mind bein in hospital bcuz im a nosey person and u get 2 find out intrestin stories and stuff from ppl u share the room wid. im used 2 bein stuck home on my own all day so i make the most of the company.. i no it sounds daft but try n have a relaxin enjoyful tym y ur in there. last tym i was in i didnt wana cum hme lol.

Wellllll......last night for supper was my first low residue food since Wednesday lunch

It tasted amazing! Thats how hungry I was

2 slices of roast beef, mashed potatoes and chicken noodle soup

No bloated pain prior to going to the bathroom and had only 3 bm in the course of the 14 hours thereafter which is amazing.

Guess the old school IV Prednisone is working!

Now its time to introduce that max dosage of Remicade which will hopefully be my savior....hopefully I get that on Monday. I told them the last tranfusion I had a reaction so maybe they will double the Benadryl and then let the fun begin

They also need to do a small bowel follow through...does anyone remember what the prep is for that in terms of eating or fasting.

I have had so many colonoscopies and I dont remember my last follow thru

omg yes if thats the 1 i just had a small bowel x-ray they give u sum laxative stuff n then put the tube fing thru ur nose down ur throat etc wen its all in they pump sum stuff in2 u. its horrible colour i h8 it i was so ill after it.

u sound like ur enjoyin food now. keep it up :)

lets just hope the next step works well 4 u!!!

Nah, if it is just the upper GI barium series w/SBFT the only "prep" is NPO after midnight or maybe a little earlier if it is a real early morning procedure. You get to have the barium as your "snack" or "breakfast". Aren't you lucky?? Interesting what they hope to see if you had the CTE w/contrast already.

Am I misunderstanding?? You have "mixed" company in your hospital "ward" room? Here in the states there are private rooms, semi-private rooms and ward rooms. Never mixed sexes in the semi-privates and wards tho. Or did you mean the lady "across the hall" rather than just across from you?

Roast beef for your first low residue meal???? Interesting. Usually it is chicken or turkey as the first meat reintroduced and beef the last. (I love my BEEF, and STEAK! - However, forget steak in the hospital. I like my thick and juicy and tender and only done medium, leave that last little tinger of pink in the center).

Gads! I remember my first soft bland meal after some 7-8 weeks on nothing but IV fluids the two days of jello so sweet it tasted like melted sugarr and boullion so salty it tasted like brine and BOTH made me nauseous and vomit. I had to beg, cry, throa a fit and beg some more to get some REAL food! That first bland meal was scrambled eggs, no salt, no pepper, no nuttin' but scrambled eggs. DELICIOUS. I woofed them down and begged for more. I'm not a poultry fan but when they brought me that chicken breast I thought I had died and gone to heaven! I even insisted they bring me a second one! And I ATE IT too! No salt, no pepper, no nuttin', just roasted, skinless chicken breast. Chicken has NEVER tasted so good. I was ravenous!! (Are you REALLY, REALLY hungry now? *wicked grin*)

I'm pretty sure in Canada, semi-priv. rooms are same-sex rooms. Not sure about rules for wards though. Probably depends on the hospital and/or province rules.

Yes non-same sex....not decade rooms in Montreal Quebec Canada.

So far something feels likes its working

Ate breakfast at 7:30 and lunch at 12:15 and no urge to go make potty yet.

I wonder if its the IV prednison or one of the Flagyl or other IV antibioitics they game me. In any case, could be much worse. I feel like 98-99% in hospital. The only issue is do I absorbe the prednisone when its time to take it orally and whethter the remicade will work

I'm with you man..I know I've done the long hospital admission and I'm certainly not the only one here. Keep the updates goin' and try and keep your head up. You'll be out soon

Hey MTL...hope things are improving!  can you at least get a tv with hockey games on?  Oh well, those darn Bruins beat Montreal on Saturday night so it may be a good thing you missed it.

Take care....I'm looking to get tickets to a Montreal over Boston game in Montreal in March.  We'll have to see if we can meet up at the game.

Hi Glad to hear you are improving. Hope the test goes good. Well your in there resting I been down East here getting lots of snow. I bought a new snow thrower Friday ,but still got plowed out Sat.so last night I went out for a hour before dark and did some yard work it is always so wanderful when a storm is over. Keep in touch. lol gail
