Hi timmy, I havent yet had any surgeries. . . knock on wood :) I have been diagnosed with osteopenia for 4 years now due to a prolonged treatment of prednisone. . . 2 yrs straight of it which i was told by a doctor is a really bad thing to be on for so long. He also said the longest someone should be taking it is 6 weeks. It kind of surprises me that i hear many people being on it for years and years. Anyways that was off the topic lol. I started 6mp while i was on prednisone and weaned myself off pred. I was taking 6mp going on 7 yrs. I can't say it ever really worked for me, but everyone is different. I found I had the biggest mood swings on 6mp, it was like I was a b*tch from hell :(. I had told my G.I. that i wanted to find something esle to try, but he wanted to give it a little bit longer because he was "Sure" it was going to help. I have recently started taking methotrexate and have found it had helped me for a bit and has started to taper in its effectiveness and I am soon to be taking the IM of the methotrexate :( Also more off the topic sorry :) Well for supplements when i found out I had osteopenia I was prescribed Didrcal. It's a form of Calcium that isnt over the counter. It is used for older people with osteoperosis. It comes in a box with a ton of pills. Some open the bones to help the absorption of the calcium and the others are a high dose of calcium. As for the iron my doc suggested, that if i can handle it, taking the liquid iron because it is much more easily absorbed than the pills, also more effective. B 12 is a good idea. I also have a b12 problem because i am gluten intolerant. I just buy a bottle of it on its own, but for you since you have had part of your small bowel removed a b12 shot is more appropriate, more chance of it being aborbed into the blood. A multivitman is also good.
6mp is a drug that has to be monitored for sure. I was getting my blood drawn once a month to make sure my white blood cell count was normal. Your immune system can crash if things go wrong. I know that is usually prescribed to cancer patients because it subdues your immune system. Taking this drug makes you more susceptible to other illnesses so being super careful about washing your hands and stuff is big must. Well thats all i cant think of for now sammy. Hope things go better for you :)
