Not quite answering your question...but...
I've read that "bone broths" are a great safe food. It's supposed to be quite nourishing. Just google it to find some easy recipes.
A couple weeks ago, I put a whole chicken (including the bones, skins, & liver) in a crockpit. I also threw in carrots, onion, parsley, & celery. It cooked away all day, and when I was ready to eat it, I strained out all the vegetables. Then I pureed the carrots, and added it back to the broth. I also added the chicken back in, but you could just freeze it to eat when you feel better. Anyhoo, when the broth cools, it's pretty gross looking because it's like a thick gelatin. But heat it up, and it's a great tasting (and pretty filling) broth. The pureed carrot makes it look a bit orange, but I didn't actually taste it. I didn't taste the liver either (it just kind of disintegrated during cooking). It freezes nice too. I just pulled some out tonight, and it was really good.
