Hi every one...........

Any one can tell me if maintenance Med's really help CD patients or not? and what these Med's are so I can ask my doctor?

Diagnosed with CD in Jan, 08.
Meds: Prednisone(20mg), Pentasa (4mg) Remicade/monthly, Hydrocodone, prilosec, Fish oil, Multivitamins
Surgeries : NONE

One of the Moderators of this forum put together great information about meds used in Crohin's. To find it, go back to the list of posts. The second one from the very top is called "Crohn's Disease Resources" -- click on it. Then click on the third post called "Starting a new medication". Click on the last word in the post -- the word "here".

I'm on the Maintenance drug COLAZAL...well, the generic of Colazal.

My GI has told me Crohn's patients should ALWAYS be on a maintenance drug, no matter what other meds (like Prednisone) you're on.  Maintenance drugs are a must.  Will they cure you?  No.

I believe the Pentasa that you are taking is considered a maintenance med.....

Honestly Non of my Meds are working any more. Even remicade the one that use to work stop working for me since 3 months now I developed allergic reaction to it so I think I 'm going to Humira now. Still alive and I have a hope things one day will work for me.

I'm sorry to hear that...I am on humira as well and it seems to be doing its job with a strict diet. I hope it works for you!

Thanks for your input. I really do the same I 'm very concern bout food but still things seems to be not working good. I see it will some day. Hope is my Weapon.

I am a firm believer in maintainence meds. I once enjoyed a long remission med free that ended with no flare, but an emergency resection. I only take Asacol as my maintainence med, and it works well for me. Hope the Humira does the trick for you.

The 4mg for Pentasa seems like a very low dose - I'd ask my doctor about that. It targets the small intestine. I'm prescribed four thousand mg per day. On my own, I also take omega 3 fish oil, bee propilis, and acedophilus.

I take 3 pills of Asacol (400mg) twice a day.

Wolfie be sure to continue on your Asacol after your resection. After my last resection the doc said I could stop taking the Asacol, I did, and immediately got sick. I went right back on them and started feeling better soon. Asacol is a very mild medication, so it is good as a maintainence med. Good luck!

Thank you Nanners, I will continue to take my Asacol. I don't want my disease to come back for a long time..
