confused and a little scared

Hi all, I am confused and scared all at the same time, as I am sure most of have felt with this illness.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's/colitis in Nov 07 after finally seeing a doctor after approximately 2 years of diahhrea(sp)... I went for a consultation for gastric bypass surgery and the surgeon said he thought i had colon cancer when i told him of the BM's and diahhrea...

Long story short, I was diagnosed and went ahead and had the gastric bypass surgery without telling the Gastric surgeon... I know..BAD!!!  i was already told.... anyways the problem is I have managed to lose 102 lbs since the gastric in feb08 but still have another 100 lbs to go. I cannot seem to lose anymore than a lb or two within the same 5 lb range... I experience anywhere between 8 to 12 to 20 BM;s a day... pencil thin, soft and loose and most times a little bloody... sorry for the details

I am taking Saulfalk 8 pills a day and there does not seem to be any change at all.. The doctor put me on Hycort enemas for 2 weeks and it was slightly better (only 5 to 9 a day)... now I am back to the normal 10-20 per day.... any ideas as to what I should do next... and does anyone know why I cannot lose any more weight..this is so frustrating not to mention painful...

also i have these severe sharp stabbing pains in my eyes...

Just wanted to say Hi and welcome from a fellow Canadian. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in '07 at the age of 55.

Hi I think you should get your eyes looked at as Ivy mentioned crohn's can effect the eyes ,and with the pain you are having it sounds like you need to get them seen to right away.What is your GI saying about your stools and D? As far as loosing the weight I think you should get your crohn's under control first and not worry about it till your stablized with your crohn's. lol gail

The FIRST thing you need to do is get over yourself! (I can say this, because it took me a long time to realize that if I wasn't totally honest and shared EVERYTHING with my doctor, then I wasn't going to get the best treatment possible.) I know it's tough, but you have to tell your physician all the symptoms you are having--even if they don't seem related to Crohn's.

SECOND--Get a good support system. HealingWell is a great place to start. Everyone here is great. We understand what you're going through, and if not, we are at least understanding of you. That can't be said for all of our family, friends, employers, etc (although there are some great ones!).

THIRD--Learn all you can about this disease. Education is the key. Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying that you will go into remission because you become an expert. I'm saying you will have more control and hope. This also pertains to your physician. If you are knowledgeable of the disease, then you know to expect your physician to do everything he/she can do to get you into remission. And if that doctor is satisfied with merely a little less pain or a few less BMs, then he isn't the right dr. Or if you don't feel like he listens, then he isn't the right dr.

I could go on and on, but the thing I want you to hear is this--You have to be your own advocate. You alone have the power to take charge. Don't settle for less than stellar care. And keep us posted!

PS--as for your weight, get your CD under control first, then revisit the other problems. I know it is easier for me to manage other health problems when my CD is being managed.
