I had my follow up with my gi yesterday for the CT enterography results and supposed stricture.  It turns out that the pain I've been in is due to what I was always told was calcified barium that "should never pose a problem."  WRONG.  Apparently, it is now pushing against my anastamosis causing me varying degrees of pain.  That's the bad news part, I'm going to require surgery to remove it and relieve the pain. 

The good news is the most unexpected.  I have NO current disease activity!!!! yeah

I couldn't believe it when he told me.  I hope anyone who is newly diagnosed takes my good news as something to potentially look forward to in their own lives.

That is DD can go into remission.

Hi That old barium is awful stuff and glad your showing no signs of disease ..whoo. So when do you have to get the operation and how the dickens do they get it out? lol gail

I've seen several people refer to DD. What is that?

Gail -- Not sure when, basically when the pain is no longer tolerable for me. Right now it's not so bad. My GI said they should be able to do laproscopic procedure unless I have too much scar tissue. I haven't talked to the surgeons yet, I'll find out more then.

yellow fin -- Sorry for the abbreviation....it means darned disease.

All right... Soon as ya get that barium stuff taken care of, you'll be feeling better! That is SO awesome! :D... Great news!

That's pretty amazing actually. Did they say how that gets stuck? Like not drinking enough water after taking it in or something? Goodness knows I didn't hah..

I'm glad to hear everything else is healthy and normal!!! That's so great!!

Hi Could I ask when you drank the barium. I remember when I had some a few years bach and had to go for a x-ray off and on for a month or two to see if that stuff was out of me and it stayed in quite awhile before I was clear. lol gail

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I'm looking for information and help.
In 2004, I had a bowel obstruction however jus prior to the operation I had a barium swallow test perform. I has closed up and they left the barium inside me with nowhere to go. A couple of hours after the operation the barium rupture my intestine ultimately spinning a double dose of the barium smoothie into my abdominal cavity. This caused me pain of 12 on the pain scale (0 to 10). I was promptly reopened and cleanup as best the could however some barium was still present. I was hospitalize for 4 months for an operation that would have taken 1 week before discharge.
Since then I have been on pain medication to relieve the pain which the calcified barium is causing me. Hydromorphone, Lyrica, Gabapenten these are some of the medications I have been on. Without mentioning the anti-depression meds and all of the associated issues with chronic pain. I have been told that there is nothing to be done. Is this true?
Any information would be expremely helpful, I have had difficulty finding any information on this condition other that several people have died when this has happened.

DD= damed diseases, darned disease, dumb disease, disgusting disease, ect.
