In loving memory of cheese....yeah, that would be me. But lurking behind a gravestone near by the funeral service would be darkly hooded, disguised figure...ultimately revealed to be...
Cheddar !
And apart from falling off the cheese wagon as I did so severely this January ("I need fats....wanna have my fats....it's subzero darn it !") I also fall off the chocolate wagon. Two or three times a year, almost always around Christmas when my Seasonal Affective Disorders carbohydrate craving kicks in big time and I start gnawing compulsively in a search for anything sugary.
Which is often set off by the bouncing blood sugar and wrecked adrenals caused by too much caffeine - more than one cup of tea a day and I'm in trouble.
Caffeinated drinks and chocolate = severe drops in blood sugar and severe, instantanaeous, ungovernable need for sleep. My mum said it first, and boy was she right !
I will say this much though - most of the time I avoid sugar pretty well - I don't even have any in the house, except for unpasteurised honey, and molasses for the iron - I stay well away from Dairy products ( ahem,
except for the cheese and chocolate thing ) and I never, ever want to taste anything with gluten in it ever again.
(
Unless one day they are going to hang me the next morning, in which case I have a comprehensive menu planned with about
twenty different options if the chef is having problems filling the order !
Hey, what the heck, it wouldn't be me doing the laundry... )
I find there are three categories of food: things I can always have, things I can never have, and things that will do me harm if I have them too much or when my gut is kicking off. I live in drooling anticipation of the day I find a fourth category of "foods that I cannot resist that are good for me" !
