          Hi all

           I was just wondering how long people stay on remicade???  I went off in remission for 4 years, now back on it.  It worked so fast....I'm going to try hard and avoid sugars and gluten and starches as well.

Hi Sheri,
I was on Remicade for 5 years. I am switching to Humiria. It is much cheaper then remicade.

 Wow 5 years.  Does your DR.  say you'll always be on it??  Humira works the same as remicade right?   It's an injection, though??

I was on Remicade for 6 &1/2 years. It started noticeably losing effectiveness about 9 months before I stopped taking it. By the time we figured it out, that is when I switched to Humira. They are basically the same kind of medicine. One of the differences is that Remicade is made with a mouse protein and Humira is made with a human protein. Remicade is given through an i.v. and Humira is an injection you can give to yourself. Remicade doesn't hurt while going in the vein. The only pain is the needle stick for the i.v. Humira burns like *&#%, but it's not the needle stick that hurts, it's the actual medicine itself.

I don't think anyone taking these meds will "always" be on them. I think if it works you'll end up taking it as long as it stays effective/until you build up an immunity to it. Nothing is forever in the medical world. The only good thing is - they are making better medicines all the time.

I've been on Remicade 2 years now and am looking forward to staying on it as long as I can. Love this stuff! Doc tells me I am on it "indefinitely" so I think that means until I start rejecting it. And Humira kind of freaks me out with the self injection thing, not a big fan of the needles- can handle it better when someone else is administering it!
looking forwards to many more years of relief! having a lot of pain and a little flare but hopeful thats all it will be!
