I know a lot of people on here take pain meds for their Crohn's...is this for consistent pain?

My issue is terrible cramp-like pains prior to and during pooping and a very sore gut for a while after...

but I don't want to take pain meds all day because it would be overkill most of the time.

How do you handle intermittent pain?

I have constant dull aches and stabbing pains throughout my large intestines.

Do you have an anti-spasmatic drug like Levsin? My GI tells me to take Levsin for cramps/spasms and pain meds for obvious pain.

I try and breathe through intermittent pain..especially if I know a bowel movement will solve it. Unfortunately, I'm no help right now because I'm in constant pain.. but before, I was able to just breathe through it. I have also found reading or doing puzzles kind of forces me to focus on other things besides the pain... slight or intermittent pain sometimes disappears with this...

thanks! i try breathing like i remember my wife when she was giving birth...it seem to help a bit...also, not sure why, but i've discovered in recent days that if i lean back against the seat instead of hunching over it seems to help a bit...I also have not puked in over a week like i was from the pain so i guess that's good. i've been lying in bed all day with a heating pad on my belly...lucky it was a day off...

Best thing for me is actually a warm bath - when my pain gets to be it's worst, I try to go take a bath with a book and relax for a bit. I am not on any meds so it's really all that I can do at this point. I'm not sure if I'm alone here, but pressure also seems to help my pain...I tend to press on the areas that hurt, and it goes away much quicker. Breathing exercises do nothing for me though, sadly :( They actually make my pain worse sometimes!

i take pain meds when my joints are murdering me and my gut feels raw but its pretty rare. usually the stomach pain itself won't last more then an hour or 2 unless its real bad flare. i only take the pain meds when the pain is preventing me from doing something i could normally do without it.  The best is bath + pain meds :).
