Help me please. My son 26 diagnosed 6 months ago.....is coughing part of this disease?? He coughs to the point of vomiting. He has been to a gp and they think it is an alergy. He is on Lialda and Imuran. He has takes Asmanex and Nasonex for this "alergy" which started at about the same time as his Crohns was diagnosed. Tiday his ankle is swollen and he can hardly walk. Please any ideas??

Well, I know that for me, when I'm about to start vomiting from my Crohn's, I also start to cough a lot, then I end up burping a lot while I'm vomiting. I'm not sure WHY exactly (newly diagnosed), but the same thing happens to me!

Well it could be from the heartburn. But I would see a pulminologist (sp?- lung doctor as well) if it was me.
Swollen joints can be cause by crohns arthritis?

Welcome to the Forum! Has your son been to see an allergy doctor? Does he see an gastroenterologist (GI) doctor? I think these doctors may be able to tell better than a GP whether these symptoms are from Crohn's or from something else. I hope he finds out soon!

   I have crohn's and also have just been told I have relasping policondritis, this attacks all the cartilage in your body, even in your air way. I suggest you goggle it, It is attacking my jaw, ears, and eyes.my ears feel blocked and turn red but not the lobes. my nose and eyes feel swollen, my jaw hurts.

It is very rare, but common in people with crohn's.

most of the medical staff I have talked to have never heard of this.

Could you please explain in detail your jaw pain.  I have bad jaw pain which in the past has been caused by sinus problems, but now the doctors are telling me that my jaw pain is not from sinuses.  I'm confused.  I'm in a lot of pain and need some answers.  Sometimes my pain affects my top teeth and sometimes it affects the bottom.  It just plain moves around.  My muscle relaxer (Flexeril) does not help it, but often I think I must be tensing the muscles in my face and causing the pain somehow.  Tylenol definately helps.  Sometimes it feels like my top and lower jaw are not lined up, but my dentist has never noticed anything or commented on crooked teeth etc.  The pain really can't be being caused by a tooth since the pain floats all around my jaw.  I have tried Sensodyne toothpaste thinking that maybe I was just having some sort of tooth sensitivity, but even this did not provide relief.  The doctor felt my jaw and couldn't find anything wrong with it.  He told me to try to ignore the pain especially if it came and went, but to let him know if it gets progressively worse.  The problem is that I don't like being in pain as often as I'm in it which is usually at least once a day for several hours.  IF your pain is anything like mine, maybe it is my Crohn's causing it.

Sometimes it feels like someone kicked me in the face, its comes on very quick, Steroids are the only drug that helps, the next thing that happens is my ears starts to hurt, then will turn red, but not the lobe. then my nose and eyes feel like they have been frozen by the dentist. my ears also feel blocked. I also have very sore spots on my body, always changing, one day the shoulders one day my legs. always near joints.

when my jaw hurts my teeth hurt to.  I hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the input. I have just come home from the hospital. My son was admitted by the GP and the GI guy had a rhumetologist, pulmonologist, kidney dr. do tons of tests. It turns out that he is allergic to the Lialda. After being off of it and the Imuran, his cough got better by 89% and his ankle is just barely swollen now. The thing is now, that they are not sure if he is allergic to the Imuran or not......but he comes home tomorrow. He will be on flagi alone for the next month to let everything settle down and then go back on the Imuran to see if he reacts to it.......Lets hope not.
