Questions for Wolfie 40..

Don't mind at all.
I've was dx Crohns in 2001 with an obstruction, had no "D" or pain prior to that. I was put on Asacol,Folic Acid,B-12 injections,Calcium as a maintenance med and along the way was on imuran and Prednisone. I really had no real problems from 2001-2008 other than "D" no and than. BM's ranged from 2-4 per day depending on what I ate.
2006 or 2007 had a colonscopy and was told that nothing had changed.
Sept 2008 go to ER for a bowel obstruction. I was put on Prednisone and released a day later. I tried to taper off the Pred. but got to 5mg and pain started to come back.I went back to 20mg and held there until the end of December. During that time I had another colonscopy and a SBFT and was told that I had significant narrowing due to a stricture caused by scar tissue.Best solution is surgery.I had meet with the surgeon and set a date and was told to continue with Asacol,Probiotics,Folic Acid,Multi Vitamin,Dbl dose calcium and bi-monthly B-12 injections.My diet was to consist of low residue until surgery.I had one more meeting with my surgeon and had to have a Pre-surgical physical before hand.The Pre-op consult talk was about how the surgery was to be done Lapro first invasive second, she told me where the incisions we're to be made and on a diagram of of the intestine as tol how she would do it. I talked about my fears and she told me her's and reassured me that I would be fine.I was told to stop all Vitamins 5 days prior to surgery.
I'm post-op one week today. I was told to stay low residue until I follow up in 3-5 weeks.I am on 10mg Prednisone only!! I was told to wait a week or two until I can start up with my normal maint. meds. I walk on my treadmill 3 times a day 20 minutes each time and walk a 1/2 mile each time. I don't know if it is too much or not,I was told to walk,walk,walk. I have not used pain meds since being home, there's only been some discomfort and tightness. The hardest part for me is doing nothing,I'm used to moving all of the time.I also am having alot of "D", I have gone 3 times in the last hour and a half. I really hope this slows down as I have not experienced this before. I think my bowels are adjusting yet. Let's hope!

I'm going to have my wife write up a day-day from my first day in the hospital to the release day from the Hospital as she can type way faster than me and put the story line together alot shorter than me.

Another thing that they do at the hospital is they did put me on a high dose of Prednisone (short burst) and also IV antibiotics.
They also gave me a drug called Tramadol thru the IV. I had a bad reaction to it. My chest started to hurt and I couldn't breath in very deep,it went away within 5 minutes. They quit using that on me.
The biggest pain was and still is in my shoulder from the gas injected into the stomach. That pain hurt the worst!

The only thing that I know that they used was a breathing tube, and I had nothing but IV post-op. I didn't want to know what a breathing tube was as I would have gotten worked up. Sometimes it just best not to know.
I do not have a stoma,and it was never talked about. My surgeon said that it would be a standard procedure although she did apologize for the longer incision due to unbelievable size of bowel she had to pull out.
Discuss everything on your mind beforehand, that way there should not be any surprises. I told her my conerns and she told me her's.
