hey all, just wondering if anyone else here experiences a loss of appetite from time to time? i have been recently and i'm not in pain or anything, i just don't really have much of an appetite, which isn't good as i'm underweight atm so it's only working against me. i lose it for a few days then it comes back again, or it switches on and off throughout the day. is a loss of appetite common with crohn's?

I am also under weight. I think that it is because I know the pain that comes during a flare, so I don't want to eat? I think that carries on even afterwards.

I have loss of appetite when I'm not keeping up with my meds or feel im starting to flare a bit. I think loss of appetite is common with crohn's for sure. What helps for me is getting alittle more exercise, reducing stress, and eating healthier. Also, those Boost or Ensure drinks are good for keeping or even gaining weight.

Loss of appetite is very common in Crohn's patients especially during a flair. That doesnt mean it should be ignored. Tell your GI about
it and do try the meal replacement shakes like Ensure and Boost. They don't take up alot of room in your belly, they're easy to digest, and they are full of nutrients and calories which you need. Keep your chin up. Tony

Yep, I get this. Actually long before I was diagnosed I'd go through periods where I could only eat a few bites. I'd be hungry, but then it'd be over really quickly. I'd lose 10-15 lbs during these. I don't really remember what brought it back, other than time.

DEFINITELY. I've had periods like that several times...particularly prior to being diagnosed. Last year when I was in a flare, I dealt with loss of appetite. NOTHING appealed to me...not even pizza!
This year's flare, which I've been in bad since January, has really taken a toll on me as far as loss of appetite and not eating. Sometimes when we're in pain, fatigued and spending the day either in the bathroom or the bed, it's hard to get yourself up to even bother fixing something to eat...or just to go grab an Ensure out of the frig. I really struggled with that.
I went too long at the first of this year not getting nearly enough calories in my system and I paid for it dearly. I dropped close to 10 pounds within the month and could barely hold my head up or think straight. I was starving myself but couldn't feel it. Luckily I have a mom who is supportive and was willing to stay with me for as long as it took to gain my strength back from malnutrition and dehydration. She's fixed all my low-residue meals and helped remind me to drink my Ensure etc...it's been almost a month but I'm feeling better.
But loss of appetite for me comes and goes depending on what my Crohn's is doing to me on any given day.

I dont know if its the thought of when I eat it has to come out or if its the meds mainly flagyl but lack of appetite is a problem for me.
