daughter w/ Crohn's has numbness on left side

Hi all.  It has been a while since  I have posted as things seemed to be going along fine...

Until my daughter admitted to me that the left side of her left hand, left shin, ankle on left side, and now her lower buttocks seems to occasionally feel numb.  She describes it not as falling asleep, but numb. 

She takes 6MP and has since Jan 24th.  We see her doc next Thursday, so hopefully we will discuss it then.  I did put a call into the nurse to see if it was a known side effect or something we should be worried about. 

Other than that she seems to being doing well.  No d, mild nausea, slight weight loss after coming off of prednisone, which we expected, and mild occasional cramping.  I think all in all we are very pleased with her current state. She has come so far in a fairly short time.  Just worried about the numbness. 

If anyone has had any similarities iwth this numbness or is on 6mp and has had this, please let me know your experience.

Hi,

I have the numbness. Just on my left thigh, and it is not there all the time. I've not asked my doc about it because I thought it was unrelated, but with this disease anything seems possible. Let us know how you make out and I'll speak to my doc as well on my next visit.

First...is she taking flagyl? That can have a neurological side effect causing numbness and tingling.

Second...What you are describing is exactly what I felt when I had a severely bulging disk in my back (not Crohns related). The disk was protruding and pushing on the nerve which affected my whole left side. As it got worse, it finally affected what felt like my lower tushy. You might want to ask your doc about this. I waited a very long time with the numbness and still have residual problems even after the disk was removed (plus one other)

Very good information from both posts. Thanks. She did say that her back hurt, and htat it hurt differently than with Crohn's. I will schedule her with a Chiropractor. At least that is a start.

no offense, but the chiropractor I tried actually made my back worse. The "manipulations" he did actually bent my spince the opposite way that it needed to go. I really recommend talking to the GP and getting to see a physical therpist instead. The exercises they did with me gave me great relief and might have prevented my surgery had i gone sooner.
Not trying to soap box here...just giving you my experience and the experience my sister & cousin also had.

When seeking a chiropractor, try to find one that does not do "manual adjustments" with their own hands/fists/etc. Mine uses a hand tool, so she can be much more site specific. Let's say there's an area of only half an inch that is out of place- when putting it back in with the ball of your hand, you're overcorrecting a wider area.
As far as numbness goes, I had a recent incident with my left hand/forearm. It seemed to start from the very tip of my index and middle finger, and an initial charlie horse type pain radiated up to my elbow, followed by about five minutes of numbness. The chiropractor worked it out- it was the result of long term issues I have with my neck and jaw.

random....but i am kind of obsessed with b12 deficiency....we recently found mine...after some confirmatory tests...it was borderline low on first test...but as i was researching it....it can cause all kinds of crazy things...a lot of which i am experiencing as we work to get it normal....

it is very important to the nervous system and I read a lot about numbness on the sides and sometimes shooting pains and stuff...

just an idea

thanks.  I will look into that.  I did get soem results back and her platelet count is 400.  I think she is fighting something.
